A Canadian Hummingbird — Just Because

I forgot to include this neglected avian buddy in two separate articles: this one pertaining to Mount Robson Lodge at which I arguably had the best view from a room I had ever seen during my years of travels; and this one which listed some of my new animal friends from the Rocky Mountains in Canada.

Because I neglected this poor little guy twice, I thought I would dedicate this article to her…

…at least, I believe that this particular bird is female, as I am not exactly trained to guess the gender of a hummingbird. Maybe he is male, which is why I initially used the word guy. I do not know.

I attempted to research what is this species; and my uneducated guess is that it is a Rufous hummingbird — according to what I read and saw in this article at The Cornell Lab of Ornithology — so let us go with that.

Rufous hummingbirds are found on the western third of the North American continent — anywhere from southeastern Alaska to southern Mexico, depending on the season. It is one of seven different known species of hummingbirds which are indigenous to British Columbia; and it is the most northerly ranging of all hummingbirds — as well as the feistiest hummingbird in North America.

The Rufous hummingbird is a common visitor to hummingbird feeders — and if this hummingbird feeder looks familiar to you, it should…

…as it is one of the two hummingbird feeders hanging from the portico of the building which houses the office of Mount Robson Lodge.

Summary

I have seen hummingbirds just outside of my home; so seeing them live and in person is not unusual to me — but I still enjoy watching them wherever I am. They are also rather speedy; so they can be difficult to photograph at times.

The sighting of this hummingbird is just another simple wonder for me which I enjoyed during my trip to the Rocky Mountains in Canada…
