Update: Apology and Travel Waivers Issued For Passengers Affected by Delta Air Lines Outage

F lights operated by Delta Air Lines have been departing as of 11:45 in the evening Eastern Standard Time on Sunday, January 29, 2017; and a ground stop has been lifted as the information technology systems of Delta Air Lines are in the process returning to normal after a systems outage which resulted in departure delays and cancellations.

Update: Apology and Travel Waivers Issued For Passengers Affected by Delta Air Lines Outage

Meanwhile, approximately 150 flights have already been cancelled last night; and more flights are expected to be canceled today. A waiver has been issued for travel scheduled on Sunday, January 29, 2017 and Monday, January 30, 2017, for rebooking tickets by Friday, February 3, 2017, according to this official update released from Delta Air Lines and posted at Delta News Hub. “Not all delays and cancellations are being reflected on Delta systems, including delta.com, the Fly Delta App, airport information screens or through our Reservations agents. Some customers are experiencing delays upon landing, particularly at Delta’s hub airports.”

Additionally, unaccompanied minors will not be accepted for flights through noon Eastern Standard Time on Monday, January 30, 2017.

Flights already in the air remain unaffected; although there have been reports of delays upon landing — particularly at the hub airports of Delta Air Lines. There are also still sporadic reports of frustrating technology glitches with attempting to log in to official portals of Delta Air Lines to conduct business.

“I want to apologize to all of our customers who have been impacted by this frustrating situation,” said Edward Bastian, who is the chief executive officer of Delta Air Lines. “This type of disruption is not acceptable to the Delta family who prides itself on reliability and customer service. I also want to thank our employees who are working tirelessly to accommodate our customers.”

There is no word yet from Delta Air Lines pertaining to compensation, which was issued to certain passengers during the last time Delta Air Lines experienced a massive outage.

Summary

If you are scheduled to be a passenger on flights operated by Delta Air Lines today, Monday, January 30, 2017, be prepared to have your flight delayed or canceled — or better yet, use the travel waiver to fly as a passenger on a different day later this week if your schedule permits you to do so in order to avoid interruptions in your travel plans.

The big question is: was this systems outage at Delta Air Lines once again your fault — or was it due to being vulnerable to nefarious fiends who are seeking to purposely disrupt the information technology of Delta Air Lines?
