A Poignant Heartfelt Thanks to United Airlines by a Veteran FlyerTalk Member

The media whipped up a feeding frenzy in recent months on the foibles of United Airlines upon its customers with operational issues and inhumane treatment — amongst other problems — but although my experiences as a passenger aboard airplanes operated by United Airlines have been uneventful, I wanted to share the following story with you after I read it.

As a member of FlyerTalk for greater than 18 years and certainly longer than my own tenure as a member, flyme2 imparted a poignant and heartfelt thanks to the otherwise vilified airline…

How to Add Spoilers to FlyerTalk and InsideFlyer

You would like to post content to the forums of FlyerTalk or InsideFlyer; but you might want some or all of the content to be hidden for whatever reason — perhaps to save space with a feature which is both expandable and collapsible.

The feature is known as a spoiler; and although it has been around for years, members of FlyerTalk or InsideFlyer rarely use it — even though it is really easy to use.

Here are the instructions as follows…

Stay Positive.

By now, you are probably overstuffed from that Christmas dinner or those Chanukah latkes; exchanged gifts; listened to holiday music — and most importantly of all, reflected on what attributes and traditions are most important during the festive season of holidays…

…but what exactly is important? Family and friends — sure. Peace — yes. Treating others with respect and civility — of course. Those are only three of many things which are important; but another is to stay positive.

As frequent travelers, we expose ourselves more to the negative aspects of travel — and that exposure occurs more often: irregular operations; missed upgrades; rude people; crowded airports to name only a few…

…and those aspects tend to sour an experience — but how do you remain positive during…

TalkBoard to Disband After November 30, 2016 on FlyerTalk

“Talkboard will be disbanded at the end of November. Many people have faithfully served as Talkboard members. Many good decisions have come from it, and FlyerTalk has been strengthened as a result. However, FlyerTalk is now a mature board with little activity where Talkboard can engage. It’s been increasingly difficult to get members to vote in the Talkboard election. I think that readers are happy to engage in conversations about miles and points but have little interest in the mechanics of the board. I deeply appreciate all that Talkboard has done over the years. We are a better site thanks to their efforts.”

Those are the words posted by…

In Memoriam: Kevin Pinto

“Just a quick note to say that my Oncologist advised me that my glioblastoma is now in remission” was the first line in an e-mail message from Saturday, May 9, 2015 of which I was one of the recipients. “Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers and contributions.”

That e-mail message was from none other than a gentleman named Kevin Pinto, who concluded with “You guy’s are the best!!!” with a salutation of “Love, Kevin” — and Kevin did not use the word love lightly for as long as I have known him.

When I first learned that Kevin Pinto was diagnosed with brain cancer, I sent him a detailed e-mail message the day after his birthday — which was on Saturday, November 9, 2013 — wishing him a happy birthday. He responded with the following…
