Congratulations to Head for Points For Winning Three Awards

Excellence is a word which people do not normally associate with weblogs; but I thought I would “scoop” Rob Burgess and Anika Newjoto by congratulating them in honor of Head for Points receiving no fewer than three awards at the Business Travel Journalism Awards last night, Thursday, October 5, 2017 — and that includes the distinction of Editor of the Year…

Congratulations to Head for Points For Winning Three Awards

…but to me, awards are not what defines the merit of content being posted on the Internet. Rather, it is how that content is perceived and used: does it help, entertain and inform readers? How accurate is the information?

Members of FlyerTalk have long been known for bluntly speaking their minds — especially in this forum with regard to weblogs — so to read the words of appreciation pour in for Head for Points in this discussion is one testament to the value of its content, for which the awards simply acknowledge.

By the way, Rob Burgess is known as FlyerTalk member Raffles; and despite having founded a successful weblog to which he consistently writes articles, he is still an active member of FlyerTalk who contributes valuable information from which others benefit.

Summary

I am the first to admit that despite greater than eleven years of writing for The Gate at BoardingArea and FlyerTalk — as well as for InsideFlyer, TravelZork and First2Board — I still have a lot to learn. That is where you come in — especially when you post constructive criticism in the Comments section…

…but also where weblogs such as Head for Points comes in when an example of what comprises of good articles is set. I have never met Rob or Anika — perhaps one day I will — but Rob and I have communicated in the past and read each other’s weblogs.

Focusing on the craft of writing and posting good content in an incredibly crowded space — such as frequent travel loyalty program miles and points; as well as travel in general — especially in an environment in which advertising dollars and retaining interest from readers is increasingly difficult to do…

…but in what can be largely perceived as a sea of “click-bait”, inaccurate information and hyperbole, good solid content can still be found — and Head for Points is truly deserving of all of the accolades it receives.

Congratulations to Rob and Anika in being recognized for striving to achieve excellence in their work — and it is well deserved.
