Defecating in the Hotel Pool: A Trend?

T he next time you decide to take a swim in a pool at a hotel property, you may want to double-check to ensure that there is nothing “suspect” in the water.

In what appears to be a disturbing trend, people are purposely defecating in hotel pools in a practice supposedly known as logging or code brown — filling the pool with potentially harmful bacteria and germs which could cause sickness, diarrhea and irritable bowel syndrome in unsuspecting guests.

Could cause sickness? To me, this is sickening in more ways than one.

A warning letter was reportedly released from at least one hotel property in Egypt warning of a fine of approximately £1,400.00 if anyone is caught depositing excrement in the swimming pool; and problems have also supposedly been reported at hotel properties in Spain, Turkey and — sorry, George — Greece.

Interestingly — and completely randomly and coincidentally — the lyrics to the chorus of Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word by Elton John was playing on the computer while I was writing this article; and it just seems to capture my sentiment of this topic:

It’s sad — so sad
It’s a sad sad situation
and it’s getting more and more absurd

I will change the last few lines of the lyrics to that chorus:

Why can’t they think it over
Oh it seems to me
All they want to do is release a turd

Unless the reason is merely for publicity purposes — of which I am apparently guilty by writing and posting this article — I cannot understand what people who perform such a revolting act get out of it; and I could not believe this story when I first read about it.

I must admit, however, that this gives a whole new meaning to the term party pooper — but let us hope this disgusting trend ends and does not extend to airplanes as a result of not being allowed to use the lavatory in the cabin in which your assigned seat is located
