Earn a Bonus of 30 Percent When You Convert Marriott Rewards Points to AAdvantage Miles

You can earn a bonus of 30 percent on each conversion of Marriott Rewards points to American Airlines AAdvantage miles through Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 11:59 in the evening Central Daylight Time — and you can convert Marriott Rewards points to AAdvantage miles multiple times during the promotion period.

Earn a Bonus of 30 Percent When You Convert Marriott Rewards Points to AAdvantage Miles

To qualify for this offer — which is not transferable and cannot be reversed, as airline transfers are one-way and cannot be refunded or reversed — you must initiate the AAdvantage mileage conversions with the Marriott Rewards frequent guest loyalty program and be in good standing in the American Airlines AAdvantage frequent flier loyalty program. You may convert your Marriott Rewards points into AAdvantage miles multiple times during the promotion period.

To earn the conversion bonus of 30 percent, you must convert Marriott Rewards points into AAdvantage miles — and the conversion rates are as follows:

Amount of Marriott Rewards Points Converted Amount of AAdvantage Miles Bonus Amount of AAdvantage Miles Total AAdvantage Miles After Conversion
10,000 2,000 +600 2,600
20,000 5,000 +1,500 6,500
30,000 10,000 +3,000 13,000
70,000 25,000 +7,500 32,500
140,000 50,000 +15,000 65,000

Select Terms and Conditions

Bonus miles will be posted by American Airlines to your qualifying AAdvantage account within seven business days after the initial conversion activity has been posted by Marriott Rewards. Bonus miles earned in this promotion do not count toward elite status qualification.

Your name must be identical on both accounts in order to complete the transfer request, as different names will cause the transfer to be rejected.

Points converted to AAdvantage miles as part of a Marriott Rewards/AAdvantage travel package do not qualify for this promotion.

Other terms and conditions — including those of the Marriott Rewards frequent guest loyalty program and of the American Airlines AAdvantage frequent flier loyalty program — apply.

Summary

This similar promotion which has since been extended to Tuesday, October 31, 2017 for members of Starwood Preferred Guest was offered for the conversion of Starpoints to AAdvantage miles — but one distinct difference is that you could only earn up to 30 percent on each conversion; whereas you earn a flat 30 percent on each conversion of Marriott Rewards points with this promotion…

…and you also do not earn a standard bonus of 5,000 Marriott Rewards points when you convert a minimum of 20,000 Marriott Rewards points to American Airlines AAdvantage frequent flier loyalty program miles in one transaction — like you can with Starpoints. There are also some other minor differences between the two promotions.

If you are looking for a quick way to build up AAdvantage miles in your account and you value them more than Marriott Rewards points, then this promotion could be a good deal for you…

…but because I value Marriott Rewards points more than AAdvantage miles, I do not intend to participate in this offer.

The SPG transfer promotion is still ongoing. It expires October 31 (they extended it last week).
