Flight Canceled Due to Hostile Passengers?

American Airlines canceled flight 1908 from Miami to New York because some passengers allegedly became so hostile that the flight crew apparently did not feel comfortable about working that flight.

What caused the alleged hostility? What did passengers do as a result of being grounded? What repercussions did American Airlines because of the decision to cancel the flight? Are service cutbacks and higher airfares currently being implemented by the airline industry in general a contributing factor to increased hostility amongst airline passengers? Will there be more incidents such as this one?
