How to Help Flight Attendant Who Will Run in Marathon for Jason Dahl Scholarship Fund

N ick Pino has been a flight attendant with United Airlines since 2008; and he will be running on behalf of the Jason Dahl Scholarship Fund in the New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 2, 2014.

Hoping to raise at least $5,000.00, Nick is currently almost halfway towards his goal at $2,477.00.

I first learned about this effort from Kathy at Will Run For Miles; but you can track the progress of Nick — who is also known as FlyerTalk member travelguy70in this discussion.

“Nick chose the Jason Dahl Scholorship Fund to honor the legacy of the heroes of United Flight 93 and has set himself a goal of raising $5,000 for this cause”, Kathy wrote earlier this month. “If you would like to make a donation, please go here. Donations are tax deductible and it is an IRS qualified 501(c)3 Non-Profit Corporation. In the special instructions section, which is on the last page before you hit pay, you can add ‘Nick Pino, NYC Marathon.’”

Jason Dahl was at the controls as the captain of United Airlines flight 93 which crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001. His wife, Sandy — who was also known as FlyerTalk member dendahl1 and sadly passed away in May of 2012 at the age of 52 — launched the scholarship fund in his name which gives financial assistance to young men and women interested in an aviation career.

FlyerTalk members have generously contributed tens of thousands of dollars over the years to the Jason Dahl Scholorship Fund, with the most recent effort earlier this year raising $11,800.00.

Milepoint members have also generously contributed towards the Jason Dahl Scholorship Fund — such as with this example where a donation also doubled as a bid to attend a baseball game in Denver with none other than Randy Petersen.

There are only ten days left before the New York City Marathon — so if you are so inclined to help Nick reach his goal of raising $5,000.00 towards the Jason Dahl Scholorship Fund, please do so as soon as possible.

Thank you in advance!
