It is now Friday, April 1, 2016 — meaning that it is April Fools’ Day — and in addition to the discussions of fictional information designed as pranks on FlyerTalk such as this one, WestJet once again released its annual video commemorating the day.

RALFH — which is an acronym for Robotic Automated Light Food Handler — eliminates the need for a food and beverage cart which blocks aisles and instead operates on a track overhead above the aisle as an innovative technology designed to improve the comfort of passengers during flights.

Here is a version in French; but the name of the technology is S.E.R.G.E., which is an acronym for Serveur Engagé de Repas Gastronomiques En vol — and note the typographical error in the video in which Engagé is spelled incorrectly as Eengagé:

No Foolin’ Sale

As is typical in conjunction with April Fools’ Day, WestJet is offering a No Foolin’ sale where fares start at $99.00 each way.

You can book by Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 11:59 in the evening Mountain Daylight Time for travel from Friday, April 1, 2016 through Wednesday, July 13, 2016; and from Wednesday, September 7, 2016 through Monday, October 31, 2016 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for most routes with destinations in Canada, the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe.

An advance purchase of 14 days on domestic flights and seven days on trans-border travel is required. Blackout dates from Thursday, May 19, 2016 to Tuesday, May 24, 2016; Wednesday, June 29, 2016 to Tuesday, July 5, 2016; and Thursday, October 6, 2016 through Tuesday, October 11, 2016. Seats and days are limited. Restrictions and exclusions apply.

Summary

I usually do enjoy the videos produced by WestJet for both April Fools’ Day and Christmas. This video for 2016 is not one of the best, in my opinion; but I do think that that idea has some merit towards being potentially practical and useful.

Every time I watch these videos from WestJet, I cannot help but think about how pronounced is the Canadian accent of Richard Bartrem — who is the the vice president of marketing communications and community relations at WestJet — every time he says aboat instead of about.
