She Ate Three 72-Ounce Steak Meals in 20 Minutes

As I drove on Interstate 40 east during my recent road trip of two weeks, the billboards started and continued for many miles, practically screaming the same message repeatedly in huge bold yellow letters: eat a 72-ounce steak free of charge.

She Ate Three 72-Ounce Steak Meals in 20 Minutes

I had no interest in taking photographs of the billboards; nor did I have any interest in stopping for that steak when I finally passed the establishment — but my curiosity was piqued enough as to investigate what is this offer.

The Big Texan Steak Ranch and Brewery has been located in Amarillo on what was once the famous Route 66 since 1960; and it offers customers the opportunity to eat a meal for free — with the caveat that it must be completely consumed in less than one hour.

“One of the eaters took the lead by swallowing two steaks in ten minutes”, according to the history of the origins of the contest. “Next, he politely requested a salad & a shrimp cocktail be served with his third steak. He consumed the extras, then this soft spoken giant called for his fourth steak & ask for a baked potato & a bread roll. He wasted little time on devouring those items & called for his fifth steak.”

Based on this occurrence, the current meal consists of a 72-ounce steak, shrimp cocktail, baked potato, salad, and a roll with butter — and according to these rules, if the meal is not finished within one hour, the cost of the failure to complete the challenge is $72.00.

The Big Texan did not have a photograph of the entire meal readily available at its official Internet web site; so I searched…

…and I found this video of Molly Schuyler — who is a mother of four children from Sacramento and weighs approximately 120 pounds — eating not one but three of these entire steak meals in 20 minutes back on April 19, 2015.

Among the many questions I had after watching this video is: where did it all go?!?

Sure enough, her name is listed three times in The Big Texan 72-Ounce Hall of Fame. She ate all three meals in one sitting in precisely 20 minutes  — the first meal was consumed in only four minutes and 18 seconds; the second meal in seven minutes and 29 seconds; and the third meal in eight minutes and 13 seconds.

Summary

At times, I can eat quite a lot myself — but I prefer to take my time and enjoy my meal. I have absolutely no interest in competitive eating; and I still have no interest in tackling this challenge or any of the many other challenges offered by various restaurants throughout the United States…

…but I remembered Alexander Bachuwa of The Points of Life attempting to successfully complete the challenge of eating a two-pound hamburger, one pound of French fries, and a 32-ounce milk shake in 20 minutes — you can read the article to find out whether or not he was successful — so I contacted him and asked if he would take on this challenge.

“Most definitely!” was his response. “But the baked potato would be tough.”

Well, Alexander — according to all of the photographs and videos which I have seen, the salad does not contain any tomatoes…

…so when do you intend to participate in the challenge of eating that steak dinner at The Big Texan?
