Should You Avoid Going to Thailand?

Apparently, going to Thailand is not an idea to contemplate doing safely at this time, according to the information posted in the Warning – things may turn nasty – stay away! thread. This is allegedly due to a possibly high risk of terrorism coupled with political turmoil as a result of the desperation felt by the residents of that nation.

A bomb attack reportedly already occurred.

However, is the situation really that dire in Thailand? Not all FlyerTalk members believe so…

The problems that have popped up in Thailand over the last year are very isolated events – Media loves Military Action, Bombs, and Fights were someone dies.

    Some Notes:
The problem areas are small sections of a really big city. The anti-government protests are mainly in one area, and calmed down a lot. The people who died in the protests are those involved.

The latest bombing in Bangkok was at a large market. This is due to issues surrounding the owners of the market and selling of the market. Market sellers are protesting the sell – of course – puts them out of business. Someone who did not want the protesting took this stupid action.

Bangkok as a city is that is 605.7 sq miles – The problems take up about 10 square blocks within the city.

I live here with my family (from the States), which includes a 5 year old and a 3 year old – Not once have any of us had a problem with these events – except a traffic jam or two – but that is Bangkok.

Get your tickets, pack your bags, and come and enjoy this wonderful place – you will not be sorry!

I have just returned from a trip to Bangkok. In 5 days in the city, I never noticed any unrest at all. I think the media reports are overly sensational.

I enjoyed your article and I thought it was a step up from many of the other entries on the blog.
