The Most Useless Current Promotion — Unless You Are Staying at This Location
T hrough Wednesday, September 30, 2015, you can earn 2,500 bonus Hilton HHonors frequent guest loyalty program points when you use the new “digital key” to access your hotel room — except that the only hotel property in the world which is currently participating in what can possibly be considered the most useless current promotion is Hilton Alexandria Old Town, which is located approximately nine miles south of the District of Columbia.
Fortunately, the King Street station of the Blue Line — which is currently experiencing delays due to a derailment of a non-passenger train — of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority is conveniently located within walking distance approximately one minute away from this hotel property; so a trip into Washington, D.C. is rather easy…
…but the Hilton Alexandria Old Town? A different hotel property in a more convenient location could not have been chosen — and perhaps in an even more populated location? Why are there not more hotel properties equipped with this technology?
Anyway, earning those bonus points can be simple if you are staying at the Hilton Alexandria Old Town by following these steps:
- Download the most recent version of the Hilton HHonors software application program, for which you must have an Apple iPhone 4S or later which is operating iOS 8 or later and has the ability to connect to the Internet — but Digital Key is coming soon for Android devices
- Check in and select your room via the software application program
- Select Digital Key in the software application program; and
- Go straight to your room when you arrive – skip the front desk or counter to check in
- Enjoy your room!
Even more constraining is that this software application program currently only allows one user to use Digital Key — meaning that additional guests will need to use a physical plastic entry key card. You can always ask the person at the front desk for a plastic entry key card if that is what you prefer to use after you fulfilled the requirements for this extremely limiting promotion.
So let me get this straight: only one member of the Hilton HHonors frequent guest loyalty program at a time with an Apple iPhone 4S or later using the latest version of the Hilton HHonors software application program can participate in this promotion at only one hotel property in the world; and only through September 30, 2015.
Don’t worry, Android users — the software should be ready for your portable electronic devices long after this most useless current promotion has expired.
This similar promotion to earn 1,000 Starpoints for using the keyless entry feature at participating Starwood Hotels and Resorts properties is far more appealing; but I am unsure as to whether or not it is targeted to select people.
I would like to know who was the person who concocted this brilliant marketing scheme for Hilton HHonors — especially as the Digital Key program is obviously still in its nascency.
Better yet, I would like to know who approved it…
