URGENT: Help a FlyerTalk Member Stranded in Zurich

What was supposed to be a fun holiday weekend in Europe is suddenly turning out to be unexpectedly inconvenient and problematic for FlyerTalk member jenniparks, as she has a specific question about Delta in ZRH – urgent.

Instead of enjoying bratwurst and beer in Switzerland, her passport, money and identification were all stolen while in Zurich. She has no way of identifying herself and is doubtful as to whether she will be able to return home to the United States. Worse yet, the Delta Air Lines ticket counters at the airport in Zurich are closed until Monday 7 September, and the United States consulate is closed for the American Labor Day holiday and will not re-open again until Tuesday 8 September.

Can you offer advice and help reassure jenniparks that she will indeed be able to return home?

It won’t be easy, but it is amazing how helpful ones congressperson can be. I would try and email or call the district office if the embassy doesn’t pan out.

dont worrry, usually its safe, call a credit card, best is NFCU, but anyone and ask them to Western Union money to you. Look for closest western union location and give it to the credit card company and tell them to charge it to your card. They will do this as a cash advance but you need it. AMEX might do it, NFCU will certainly do it…

  7. Mrp Alert says:

Most credit cards offer trip interruption insurance. Upon speaking with whichever card company she booked her tickets with, consult them for their trip interruption insurance policy.

  9. YOu will need to go to Bern to the US Consulate office where they issue replacements for lost passports. It is about a 1 hour train ride and short cab ride. To be honest, the lady that handles a large majority of the lost applications is a BITCH. The Swiss guards all know it, and will direct you to an individual that can help you if she gives you a hard time.

I have been through the experience of a damaged passport in Switzerland and it is not fun. Your answer is in Bern.
