8,000 Points or $50: Your Choice With Choice Hotels — Again
In an encore of a promotion from last year which will be effective as of Thursday, May 23, 2013, stay at Choice Hotels properties as a Choice Privileges frequent guest loyalty program member through August 21, 2013 and you will earn your choice of 8,000 points or a $50.00 gift card after your second qualifying stay. However, you must register for this promotion before arrival and book your stay at a qualifying rate.
If you would rather keep the 8,000 Choice Privileges frequent guest loyalty program points and not use them for a gift card, consider redeeming them for a complimentary night in a hotel room in select Choice Hotels properties in Europe before June 30, 2013 and in Tokyo throughout the year.
Additionally, if you are a Diamond and Platinum elite tier member who registers and books your reservation through the official Internet web site of Choice Hotels, you will receive an additional 100 bonus Choice Privileges frequent guest loyalty program points with every qualified trip during the promotional period
The $50.00 gift card — which must be redeemed by November 1, 2013 — is good at select fuel stations, restaurants and stores in the United States and Canada, as shown on the list below:

Other terms and conditions apply for this promotion.
If you are not already attempting to earn or maintain elite status for next in a different hotel program with stays, this promotion can certainly be worth your attention, as you can earn an unlimited amount of gift cards during the promotion period — but I recommend you generally stay away from the lower-cost properties when attempting to earn the $50.00 gift cards.
For example, let’s say you wanted to stay in Kansas City next month to qualify for a $50.00 gift card. Do not stay at the Econo Lodge Airport and Econo Lodge South properties, because even though the rates at both hotel properties are slightly greater than $38.00 per night, you must stay a minimum of two nights at each property, which will ultimately cost you approximately $153.00 plus taxes and fees to earn that $50.00 gift card. Frankly, I shudder at the thought of staying at an Econo Lodge for even one night, let alone four — and it only includes continental breakfast at best. Instead, try the Sleep Inn Airport for $47.99 plus taxes and fees for one night and a small selection of either Comfort Inn or Quality Inn hotel properties at approximately $52.00 for the second night — that adds up to $100.00 plus taxes and fees for two fewer nights and at least $50.00 less money for that $50.00 gift card, and the rates at both of those properties include breakfast.
If you look at it from the point of view that a $50.00 gift card usually requires the redemption of 16,000 Choice Privileges frequent guest loyalty program points, then this is a great deal.
However, I would consider skipping this promotion if you are averse to booking a restricted advanced reservation rate, as taking advantage of this promotion may not be worth the trouble for you.
