Fans of the National Hockey League are amongst those who are mourning for the victims of the crash of a Russian-built Yakovlev-42 charter aircraft, which landed into the Volga River in Yaroslavl — which is located just northeast of Moscow — shortly after takeoff.
Only two of the 45 people — including members of the Yaroslavl Lokomotiv hockey team, which was on its way to its season opener game — survived the crash. Some of the members of the Russian hockey team formerly played with the National Hockey League in the United States.
An investigation is under way.
