Better Deal Just Announced: $7.19 Per Day For Rental Cars Leaving Florida One Way — Spring 2019

When I first reported in this article on Friday, March 22, 2019 that “this year, the going rate is no less expensive than $14.95 per day — and that rate is only offered by Avis Rent A Car System and Budget Rent A Car System”, Hertz had not yet tossed its hat into the discounted drive-out from Florida for 2019…

…but if you are able to position yourself to rent a car from Florida and drive it out, now is the time to do so: how about a rental rate of as low as $7.19 per day for rental cars leaving Florida one way Spring 2019 to much of the eastern United States — such as Atlanta or Boston, for example?

That is exactly what Hertz is offering when you rent a car to be driven out of Florida — and the good news is that the rental car rates are actually less expensive than those from 2018…

…but the bad news is that this offer is only available between Sunday, April 21, 2019 and Friday, May 31, 2019, which is only 41 days.

For example, you can rent a car from Hertz for four days one way from Tampa to New York for only $74.76 total — including all taxes and fees, as shown in the image to the right.

That total is $12.74 less expensive than the $87.50 total for a similar rental in 2018; but it is also $10.68 more expensive than the $64.08 total for a similar rental in 2017.

Eligible Classes of Cars

The eligible classes of cars which are available for $7.19 per day — for a maximum duration of 14 days — plus taxes and fees are as follows:

  • Economy Group A
  • Compact Group B
  • Intermediate Group C
  • Standard Group D
  • Full Size Group E

Select Terms and Conditions

Rate advertised is the base rate only. Taxes, tax, reimbursement, age differential charges, fees, surcharges and optional service charges such as refueling are not included. Subject to availability, this one-way offer is redeemable at select Hertz markets.

Age, driver, credit and qualifying rate restrictions for the renting location apply. Offer not valid and rate change or additional fees may apply in the event of reservation modification, early/late vehicle return or if not returning vehicle to the designated location. Offer has no cash value, and may not be used with other discounts, promotions or special rates.

Blackout periods — as well as other terms and conditions — may apply.

Rental car rates were as inexpensive as $4.95 per day out of Florida in 2017, but unfortunately, that rate is nowhere to be found this year.

I wrote in this article that one of the 8 tips in which you can save money on renting cars is to rent one from Florida for $9.95; so this is considered a good offer from Hertz — especially as both neighborhood locations and airport locations are eligible…

…but this year, fewer classes of vehicles are offered during a shorter period of time for the promotion than in previous years. Avis and Budget offer more vehicles for a longer period of time for their similar promotions this year — but rental rates are more expensive, as they start at $14.95 per day.

One inexpensive way in which you may want to position yourself to a city in Florida is to use Megabus — although it is highly unlikely that you will be able to obtain a base fare of only one dollar; but you may still be able to procure a reasonable bus fare. This does not always work, as you have to account for expenses such as fuel for the rental car, food, and basic opportunity costs; but the discount can work in your favor if planned correctly.
