Where Can You Find Gasoline for Fewer Than $1.50 Per Gallon? Which States Average Below $2.00 Per Gallon?

t the time this article was posted, you can fill up your tank with gasoline at $1.49 per gallon at a Sinclair fuel station located in Tulsa; while the average price for a gallon of gasoline has dipped below $2.00 per gallon in six states, according to GasBuddy.com:

Missouri $1.825
Oklahoma $1.869
Kansas $1.909
Texas $1.963
Minnesota $1.990
Ohio $1.997

While gasoline prices are still dropping — and I understand that the trend of the decrease in price is expected to continue through the winter months, so additional fuel stations should dip below $1.50 per gallon for gasoline — there is one town which is feeling the pain of a sharp increase.

Crawfordsville — located in Indiana approximately 45 miles northwest of Indianapolis — had prices as low as $1.42 for a gallon of gasoline within the past few days; but the price has jumped back up a whopping 33 cents per gallon to $1.75 per gallon, according to this article written by Holly Campbell of WISH TV Channel 8 News.

I will bet that anyone who decided to wait to fill up his or her tank in Crawfordsville is regretting it right about now…

  1. Doubt there is much regret .33 X 15 gallon tank = $4.95…….not that big of deal. People get SOOOOOOO overworked about trying to save a few bucks on gas. I know people that drive across town to save .10 a gallon at Costco. Congrats you saved $1.50, but you also wasted about 30min of your time and spent over $1.50 on gas just to get there.

    1. I know people who have similar habits and practices, MSPDeltaDude.

If the less expensive fuel station happens to be on the way to where that person is going anyway, that is one thing; but to drive a special trip just to save a couple of dollars makes no sense at all…

    2. Agree. Works out for me that the Sam’s gas station is only 2 miles from my office. At 33 cents/gallon difference, I save about $6 each week when I fill up my truck.

Back when the prices were closer (only 3-10 cents difference) with other gas stations, I never wasted my time looking for cheaper gas stations.

  2. Luckily for me, Sam’s Club and Costco in Baton Rouge both have gas for $1.62; I’m pretty sure they’re in a price war. The other gas stations in the area are around $1.95.
