Delta Flight Museum: Photographs Outside of the Official Venue of the 2015 Freddie Awards

s you drive up to the security gate of the parking lot of the Delta Flight Museum, a retired Boeing 757-232 aircraft greets you as if to let you know that you have arrived — and to let you know that you are about to transported back in history in a special time machine filled with both memorabilia and memories.

Of course, it may not seem welcoming to you — depending on from which angle you view it…

…but the historic Hangar 1 and Hangar 2 which houses the Delta Flight Museum will certainly be inviting.

I know of one person who wanted to sneak out at night and cut a piece of the iron “widget” fence — which surrounds much of the world headquarters of Delta Air Lines — and take it home with her.

I asked her how in the world was she going to board it onto the airplane — even if it was operated by Delta Air Lines. I never really got an answer from her; although I heard the words overhead bin used.

Only recently was the McDonnell Douglas DC-9 aircraft — which accompanies the Boeing 757-232 aircraft near the entrance — the oldest active ship in the entire fleet of airplanes operated by Delta Air Lines. Its 40th “birthday” is next month.

As a fundraiser for the Delta Flight Museum, people purchased personalized bricks, which are laid out in an area outside of Hangar 1.

If you are interested in purchasing a brick, another campaign is expected to be announced later this year.

The entrance to the Delta Flight Museum is located on the north side of Hangar 2.

As you walk closer to the entrance, you cannot help but notice the ingenious use of landing gears as support beams for the awning.

I intend to post photographs of the inside of the Delta Flight Museum — other than those which I have already posted in this article, which includes The Spirit of Delta Boeing 767-232 aircraft — in a future article. You can also find a map in this article of where the Delta Flight Museum is located — as well as surrounding hotel properties and restaurants.

The Freddie Awards for 2015 will occur on the evening of Thursday, April 30, 2015.
