Earn 500 Bonus AAdvantage Miles With Avis and Budget While Saving Up to 35 Percent — Winter 2018

Through Wednesday, February 28, 2018, you can earn 500 bonus AAdvantage miles with Avis and Budget while saving up to 35 percent on each car rental whose duration is a minimum of three consecutive days — and even though the offers are basically the same, there are differences in both valid rental locations and the maximum percentage you can save on a rental car.

Avis Terms and Conditions

When you rent a car from Avis Rent A Car System, keep the following information in mind:

  • AAdvantage bonus miles are only valid at participating Avis airport locations in the United States, Canada, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Mexico, Latin America, and Caribbean.
  • The savings of up to 35 percent applies to the time and mileage charges only. Use AWD # K817165 to receive this discount.

Budget Terms and Conditions

When you rent a car from Budget Rent A Car System, keep the following information in mind:

  • AAdvantage bonus miles are only valid at participating Budget airport locations in the United States, Canada, Latin America, Mexico, and Caribbean.
  • The savings of up to 30 percent applies to the time-and-mileage charges only. Use BCD # U072411.

Terms and Conditions Shared by Both Offers

The following terms and conditions are shared by both offers — and other terms and conditions may apply:

  • 500 AAdvantage bonus miles offer valid on a minimum qualifying rental of three or more consecutive days.
  • Avis Preferred members and Budget Fastbreak members must provide or mention a valid AAdvantage number at time of reservation or at time of rental to receive AAdvantage base and/or bonus miles. All other rentals require the mention of AAdvantage number at time of rental to receive AAdvantage base and/or bonus miles.
  • Bonus AAdvantage miles offer valid on all car groups.
  • Gold, Platinum, Platinum Pro, Executive Platinum members and Citi / AAdvantage Cardmembers and AAdvantage Aviator MasterCard Cardmembers will earn the higher of the base values
  • Please allow up to eight weeks for AAdvantage bonus miles to post to your AAdvantage membership account.
  • An advance reservation is required.
  • Offer may not be used with any other coupon, promotion or offer except your AWD or BCD discount.
  • In the United States, taxes, concession recovery fees, vehicle license recovery fee and customer facility charges may apply and are extra.
  • Optional products such as LDW — $29.99/day or less — are extra.
  • Offer is subject to vehicle availability at the time of rental and may not be available on some rates at some times.
  • Car rental return restrictions may apply.
  • Offer subject to change without notice.
  • Renter must meet Avis or Budget age, driver and credit requirements.
  • Minimum rental age may vary by location.
  • An additional daily surcharge may apply for renters under 25 years old.
  • A Frequent Traveler Program Surcharge or Excise Tax may be applied and will be assessed in connection with miles earned pursuant to a reservation. For rentals in the United States, Puerto Rico, Saint Thomas, Saint Croix and Canada, when the renter chooses to receive frequent flier miles, Avis or Budget will assess a frequent flyer surcharge equivalent to USD $1.00 per day. The amount assessed is collected by Avis or Budget to offset a portion of the annual cost of participation by Avis or Budget in frequent flier loyalty programs.
  • Rental must begin by Wednesday, February 28, 2018.

If you are a member of the American Airlines AAdvantage frequent flier loyalty program who plans on renting a car from either Avis or Budget for three or more consecutive days, consider taking advantage of this offer to earn bonus AAdvantage miles while potentially saving money on car rentals…

…but do not be surprised if your account is not credited immediately with what you earned, as 17 months elapsed — as well as a significant amount of effort on my part — before I received the points which I earned as a result of renting cars from Avis.

Keep in mind that you will be charged a Frequent Traveler Program Surcharge of one dollar per day in addition to the other taxes and fees on your final statement once the vehicle rental has concluded.

This has been quite annoying for me overall and I figured I’d pick your brain.

Going to aa.com and booking either Avis or Budget takes you to book1.carrental.com and they want a fairly hefty markup (far more than the $1/day).

For a Ford Explorer 7 day rental out of SAN, I’m looking at:
$397.51 from Avis.com no discount code.
$364.00 from Avis.com with discount code K817100 (taken from AA.com) or K817165 (taken from here)
    $417.23 from carrental.com!

Slight rant addendum: I just gave the aa.com discount code a whirl on Budget and the price is $345 so I’ll go that way, but I remember similar shenanigans on carrental.com; what gives? The runaround is a bit exhausting trying to make sure I’m not getting hosed.

Is there a way to make sure that my mileage credit gets applied properly if booking directly via Avis/Budget?

Discount codes can be extremely unpredictable with most rental car companies, Ryan Bruce. I completely understand your rant and raise your bleh with another bleh.

I have used discount codes which were great at certain destinations at certain times of the year; but lousy and practically useless at other destinations at other times of the year. Sometimes the same discount code can frustratingly vary wildly at the same rental car facility.

Unfortunately, travel companies — including airlines, hotels and rental cars — purposely use deceptive tactics to increase the difficulty of comparing prices. Here is one such article which I wrote recently about an advertised benefit which does not seem to be a real benefit…

…and that is not including the implementation of mandatory resort fees with lodging companies; carrier-imposed fees with airlines; and even those offers where you can earn double miles or points when you book your reservation — if you are willing to pay more.

When I rent from Avis, I prefer to credit points to my World of Hyatt account — but sadly, that is not always the best rate either; and Avis inexplicably charges the surcharge fee of one dollar for hotel points. That was not always the case.

I wish I could offer you a better suggestion on how to earn American Airlines AAdvantage miles at the cheapest rate possible from Avis; but perhaps you might want to consider using AutoSlash.com, which is a free service that alerts you of lower rates after you reserve you car…
