Earn Double or Triple Starpoints in SPG Earn Away Promotion Beginning Today
Earn double Starpoints on all eligible stays at greater than 1,000 participating Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide properties through July 31, 2014 with the SPG Earn Away Promotion; and if your stay includes a Sunday — Saturday at participating hotel properties in the Middle East — then you can earn triple Starpoints.
You must register for this promotion by June 30, 2014.

Here is a list of participating hotel properties in Middle Eastern countries which will award triple Starpoints for stays which include a Saturday:
- Jordan Amman
- Bahrain Bahrain
- Kuwait Kuwait City
- Lebanon Beirut
- Saudi Arabia Al Khobar, Dammam, Jeddah, Makkah, Medina, Riyadh
- Qatar Doha
- United Arab Emirates Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai and Fujairah.
You will earn four total Starpoints per eligible United States dollar spent during this promotion once you are registered; and with triple Starpoints, you will earn six total Starpoints per eligible United States dollar spent. Only the base earning of two Starpoints per dollar will be doubled or tripled — not any bonus Starpoints nor any Starpoints earned from elite level status bonuses. There is no limit to the number of total bonus Starpoints you can earn within the promotion period.
You can register for other promotions in addition to this one if the terms and conditions of the other promotions allow for it.
An eligible stay is defined as one or more consecutive nights paying an eligible rate in the same hotel property regardless of the number of times you check in or check out of that hotel property. Eligible stays with at least one night in the earning period will receive a bonus; and as long as one night of the stay is within the promotion period, bonus Starpoints will be earned on every night during the entire stay — even if part of the stay falls outside the promotion period…
…and if a part of that stay happens to include a Sunday which is just beyond the promotion period, you still earn triple Starpoints.
That is better than the current promotion of the Hilton HHonors frequent guest loyalty program, where you can only earn credit on the portion of the eligible stay which occurs during the promotion period.
An eligible rate is any rate that is eligible to earn Starpoints in the Starwood Preferred Guest frequent guest loyalty program. Note that certain rooms paid in advance where the reservation is booked through a third party — including but not limited to Travelocity, Expedia, Orbitz and Delta Air Lines — are not eligible rates and do not earn Starpoints for you or qualify for promotional earnings.
Free Night Awards and Cash & Points do not count as qualifying stays for this promotion. Even if part of the stay is reserved using an Award and part is paid, you will not receive bonus Starpoints for any part of the stay.
Other terms and conditions apply.
As with the current promotion of the Hilton HHonors frequent guest loyalty program, FlyerTalk members have posted mixed reactions to this latest promotion — but FlyerTalk member jmgriffin concludes that this is a “pretty solid promotion, possibly better than the last few that Starwood has run but that all depends on how much you typically spend per night with Starwood” with the following analysis:
“The value of the promotion really depends on how much you typically spend at a Starwood. Both of SPG’s most recent promotions, the Fall 2013 ‘SPG Take Two’ and Winter 2014 ‘Bring On The Nights’, essentially gave you 500 Starpoints/night for up to 25 nights (technically 1,000 bonus points for nights 21-25). The best way to compare the old promos to the new promo is by looking at the break-even values:
- For the 2x Promo Bonus you must spend $250 per night to earn 500 Starpoints.
- For the 3x Promo Bonus you must spend $125 per night to earn 500 Starpoints.
“Whether or not you’ll find this promotion better than the past few is if you typically spend more than $125-$250/night at Starwood properties. You’ll love the deal if you have a week long stay coming up at someplace like the The Gritti Palace, Venice with rates of $2,247/night in June 2014 where you’d earn a 47,000+ Starpoints bonus. For those of us staying at much cheaper properties, such as Four Points or Aloft and using corporate or AAA discounts, the typical stay is well under $250/night which makes this promotion an overall loser compared to the fixed rate of 500 Starpoints/night from the old promo. For those of us in that boat, the one good thing is that there’s no cap to the earning.
“Quick rule of thumb, if you spend more than $125/night (with Sunday night stay) or $250/night (for all other days) then you’re winning with this promotion.”
On the other hand, this promotion means nothing to FlyerTalk member DCF:
“In June/July I have:
“Le Meridien Piccadilly 6 nights: not participating.
“Hotel Pulitzer Amsterdam 6 nights: not participating.
“St Regis Monarch Beach 10 nights: not participating.
“Westin South Coast Plaza 4 nights: not participating.
“26 nights across 4 hotels in 3 countries.
As with the current promotion of the Hilton HHonors frequent guest loyalty program, you have nothing to lose if you take the couple of minutes to register for this promotion — but you potentially have a lot of Starpoints to gain.
