Summary

Although this promotion is better than nothing at all, 500 AAdvantage miles may be worth ten dollars at the most, which is not really worth tying up your money for as long as seven months.

Unless you know you must travel somewhere during the second half of this year and prefer to do so as a passenger of an airplane which is operated by American Airlines or American Eagle, you should not go out of your way or expend any more effort than necessary to participate in this promotion.

I did register for this promotion merely as a formality; but I personally believe that American Airlines needs to do a better job of encouraging its customers to tie up their money for months — and thus give the airline free use of that money — especially during the current 2019 Novel Coronavirus pandemic through which the future still is not certain.
