Every Hilton Honors Elite Qualifying Night Earned in 2020 Will Roll Over Into 2021 Automatically

Every elite qualifying night earned in the Hilton Honors frequent guest loyalty program in 2020 — that is, between Wednesday, January 1, 2020 and Thursday, December 31, 2020 — at a hotel or resort property which is a part of the brand portfolio of Hilton will automatically roll over and count towards Hilton Honors elite tier status in either 2021, 2022, or 2023.

Every Hilton Honors Elite Qualifying Night Earned in 2020 Will Roll Over Into 2021 Automatically

As an example, a member who has already earned Diamond elite level status and accrued 15 nights at the end of 2020 will roll over all 15 nights into 2021.

The ability to rollover excess qualifying nights earned beyond your current elite tier status requirements to count towards your elite tier status the following year — so that every night counts towards earning elite level status — was first announced on Monday, January 8, 2018 and implemented in April of 2018

…but those nights are typically only valid for the next calendar year; and if they are not applied to elite level status, they usually will expire thereafter; and elite rollover nights must typically be used in the following calendar year from when they were earned — but because of the unprecedented evolution and resulting effects of the current 2019 Novel Coronavirus pandemic, Hilton decided to extend the rollover feature for all members of the Hilton Honors frequent guest loyalty program who book their reservations either through the official Internet web site of Hilton; or through the official mobile software application program of Hilton Honors.

With this latest update, Hilton Honors is the only frequent guest loyalty program to implement this benefit adjustment for the full duration of 2020 in order to help members maintain or upgrade their elite level status in 2021 through March of 2023.

Over the past few months, Hilton Honors has announced several other program adjustments to help members while their travels may be limited — from Status and Point extensions to more contactless experiences through the Hilton Honors App. Additional details on these updates may be found beneath my email signature.   • 2019 Status Extension: All members whose 2019 status was scheduled to be downgraded on March 31, 2020—whether it’s Diamond, Gold or Silver—will automatically receive an extension through March 31, 2021.
  • 2020 Status Extension: We are extending your 2020 member status through March 31, 2022. This means you will continue to enjoy all the Diamond, Gold or Silver benefits you have access to today for 24 months.
  • Points Extension: We will pause the expiration of all Points scheduled to expire between now and December 31, 2020.
  • Weekend Night Rewards Earned on Eligible Hilton Credit Cards: We have extended the expiration date of all unexpired Weekend Night Rewards as of March 11, 2020, and all new ones issued until August 30, 2020, through the end of next summer (August 31, 2021).
  • Hilton Honors American Express Credit Cards: Hilton and American Express announced more ways for Hilton Honors American Express card members to continue earning rewards on everyday purchases, such as more Points on eligible purchases at U.S. supermarkets and Bonus Points now counting as Base Points to achieve elite status even faster.

Summary

The good news pertaining to the automatic rollover of all elite qualifying nights earned in 2020 demonstrates that Hilton remains committed to providing maximum flexibility to its greater than 106 million members of the Hilton Honors frequent guest loyalty program and customers around the world — and I find that the team members of Hilton continue to do everything they can to provide maximum flexibility to you and other guests, which is comforting to know when compared to other lodging companies.

“We will continue to regularly update our COVID-19 page with our most up to date information”, according to an e-mail message from Christopher Nasseta — who is the current president and chief executive officer of Hilton — which was sent to guests and all members of the Hilton Honors frequent guest loyalty program back in March of 2020. “COVID-19 has created unprecedented challenges for our industry, our hotels and our Team Members. While we have done all we can to limit changes for our people, without a traveling public we simply have fewer guests to welcome. As a result, we have suspended operations at many of our hotels and made the difficult decision to furlough some of our hotel Team Members. I am pleased to share that we are partnering with a number of companies looking to quickly expand their workforce, and that our incredibly talented Team Members will experience an expedited application process across many of these temporary opportunities.”

As the e-mail message concluded that “Our team is available to assist you day or night should you have any questions, and we look forward to welcoming you back on your next stay”, I am looking forward to my next stay at a hotel or resort property which is part of the brand portfolio of Hilton — whenever that may occur…
