Extended: Your Chance to Get Your Share of Money From Optical Disk Drive Antitrust Settlement

If you have not yet submitted a claim, this may be your last opportunity to do so: you may be eligible for a share of $205 million from settlements which have been reached in an antitrust litigation pertaining to optical disk drives purchased for your own use and not for resale between Tuesday, April 1, 2003 and Wednesday, December 31, 2008…

Extended: Your Chance to Get Your Share of Money From Optical Disk Drive Antitrust Settlement

…but you must either submit your claim here or via postal mail by Friday, June 28, 2019.

You can receive up to ten dollars per optical disk drive purchased during the aforementioned period of time; but there is one catch: individuals and businesses must reside or be based in the District of Columbia or the following 23 states in the United States:

  • Arizona
  • California
  • Florida
  • Hawaii
  • Kansas
  • Maine
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • Missouri
  • Montana
  • Nebraska
  • Nevada
  • New Hampshire
  • New Mexico
  • New York
  • North Carolina
  • Oregon
  • Tennessee
  • Utah
  • Vermont
  • West Virginia
  • Wisconsin

Summary

That laptop computer you purchased between Tuesday, April 1, 2003 and Wednesday, December 31, 2008 was most likely equipped with an optical disk drive and would qualify for the settlement — as would a portable external optical disk drive which may have traveled with you — so unless you do not reside or are not based in the aforementioned states or the District of Columbia, I cannot imagine why you would not qualify to benefit from this settlement.

The original deadline was Saturday, July 1, 2017; and the share was originally $44.95 million when I first wrote this article back on Sunday, February 5, 2017. If you do decide to participate in this settlement, completion of the claim form supposedly will consume only approximately five minutes of your time; and proof of purchase of the products in question is not required…

…but do not expect any major windfall, as you will not exactly get rich from this settlement.

As a reminder, you may also be eligible for a share of $113 million from an antitrust settlement which was reached in litigation if you purchased a laptop computer, camcorder, mobile telephone, “smartphone”, tablet computer, digital audio player, camera, or cordless power tool for your own use and not for resale between Saturday, January 1, 2000 and Tuesday, May 31, 2011 and was a resident of the United States during that period of time — believe it or not, the deadline for this particular settlement has also been extended — but you must submit your claim by Friday, July 19, 2019 at 11:59 in the evening Hawaii Standard Time.

I do not qualify to take advantage of this pending settlement because I am based in the state of Georgia; but I hope that you can benefit from it.
