Free Points, Free Flights, Free Tablets: Southwest Airlines and Dish Network Announce Partnership
A partnership between Southwest Airlines and Dish Network was launched last week — and passengers of Southwest Airlines are apparently reaping the benefits. You can, too — as you have the opportunity to earn 500 Rapid Rewards frequent flier loyalty program points for a few seconds of effort on your part.
First, Southwest Airlines has waived the fee of five dollars for a limited time to access the video content aboard its fleet of aircraft — and passengers will not be required to pay for the satellite-based Internet service aboard aircraft operated by Southwest Airlines to view the video content.
Second, members of the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards frequent flier loyalty program will receive 12,500 Rapid Rewards frequent flier loyalty program points — enough for a free flight — a 16-gigabyte Apple iPad 2 tablet with Wi-Fi only, and the Hopper set-top box when they sign up for service provided by Dish Network.
However, there is a catch: the Dish Network service must be purchased without promotional pricing. I would recommend first doing some research and comparing the value of taking advantage of promotional pricing versus without promotional pricing to see if the “free” 12,500 Rapid Rewards frequent flier loyalty program points, the Apple iPad tablet, and the Hopper set-top box are really worth the value.
Third — to the disbelief of FlyerTalk members — greater than 100 travelers on a flight from Boston to Baltimore unexpectedly received a complimentary Apple iPad tablet in celebration of the new partnership between Southwest Airlines and Dish Network, which was announced aboard that flight. FlyerTalk member GuyverII reports that a friend was traveling with his seven year old and his six month old children — and all received iPads. I highly doubt that is going to happen again on a future flight operated by Southwest Airlines — but you never know.
You can see the reaction of the passengers for yourself on this video:
It is unclear at this time as to how long access to video content will be available at no charge and exactly when the aforementioned deals will end.
Finally, you will receive 500 Rapid Rewards frequent flier loyalty program points for free simply by filling out a form at the bottom here and giving your contact information if you are not ready to sign up for service provided by Dish Network — if you believe that receiving e-mail messages is a fair trade-off for this deal. Of course — as FlyerTalk member ursine1 recommends — you could always set up an e-mail account specifically to receive those e-mail messages.
I rarely watch television, so this promotion is of no interest to me. Does it interest you? Could you benefit from it?
