…but you must log into your American Airlines AAdvantage membership account and register for this promotion prior to booking a reservation for your first award flight by Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 11:59 in the evening Central Daylight Time — the promotion code is R3Q20 — and your AAdvantage membership number must be included in the flight reservation.

An unusual twist to this promotion is that the bonus miles earned through this offer may only be credited to the AAdvantage membership account of the ticketed passenger, as the bonus is available for the passenger who is actually aboard the airplane and flying rather than for the person who booked the ticket for the flight.

If booking tickets for another traveler, they must also register for this promotion during the registration window and before creating a reservation to be eligible for this promotion.

I stumbled onto this promotion while accessing my AAdvantage membership account earlier this morning, as the Promotions tab had a little red circle with a number 1 inside of it — but I do not know whether or not it is targeted to select members of the American Airlines AAdvantage frequent flier loyalty program.

I rarely get targeted for promotions in general; so I believe that this promotion is open to all members.

This is a good promotion if you already intended on redeeming your AAdvantage miles for award travel during the month of October of 2020 anyway — and arguably not as lucrative as this similar promotion which is being offered by Southwest Airlines through which you can save 20 percent on the redemption of Rapid Rewards points for award travel

…but although I registered for this promotion — which only consumed a moment of my time — I will likely not take advantage of it.
