If you are scheduled to be in India this week, be aware that half of the country is currently without power, affecting greater than 620,000,000 — yes, 620 million — people.
This unprecedented blackout occurred a day after another massive blackout which affected greater than 370,000,000 people — more than the combined total population of the United States and Canada.
People in the affected areas are forced to perform tasks by candlelight, and traffic is gridlocked in some areas of the country.
Although power may be restored — as it was after the first blackout — there is no guarantee that another massive blackout will not happen. Please keep this in mind if you will be in India in the near future. FlyerTalk members based in India post their personal accounts first-hand in this discussion.
