Hertz Flash Sale: 24 Hours to Get a Free Day — But…

T he title of the e-mail message I received from Hertz this morning read 24 Hours to Get a Free Day — and how could I ignore it?

As a member of its Gold Plus Rewards frequent renter loyalty program, I opened the e-mail message to see how I can earn this free day — and it is by using promotion code PC# 110025 to rent select cars from the Luxury, Adrenaline, Green and Prestige Cars groups for a minimum of four days from Hertz. The vehicle must be picked up between Wednesday, June 1, 2016 through Saturday, December 31, 2016 — but that reservation can only be booked through tomorrow, Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 9:00 in the morning Eastern Daylight Time only at participating Hertz locations in the United States.

Examples of cars which can be rented include a Mercedes SLK250 convertible; a Chrysler 300; a Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible; or a Cadillac Escalade. Forget about renting that 2016 Ford Shelby GT-H or Porsche 911, as vehicles which are part of the Dream Collection are excluded from this offer, which is subject to availability.

I see no indication that this offer is targeted to any person or group of people in particular; nor do I see any verbiage stating that it is limited to only one free day of renting a vehicle per person with this promotion — and if that is indeed the case, you must book all of your reservations by the aforementioned deadline tomorrow for renting vehicles for the remainder of this year which qualify for this promotion.

The rental vehicle must be reserved a minimum of 24 hours in advance; and blackout periods may apply.

Terms and Conditions

The promotion code must be provided at time of booking your reservation; or else, the offer is void. Modifying your reservation may result in a change in your rate or invalidate this offer. This special rate is subject to increase — or fees may apply — in the event of returning your vehicle early or late; and the vehicle must be returned to the same renting location to avoid a drop charge or a change in the rate.

This offer has no cash value; may not be used with Pre-Pay rates, tour rates, insurance replacement rates or hourly rentals; and cannot be combined with any other certificate, voucher, offer or promotion.

Age, driver, credit and qualifying rate restrictions for the renting location apply. Taxes, tax reimbursement, age differential charges, fees, surcharges and optional service charges — such as refueling — are not included.

Other terms and conditions may apply.

You might be able to combine this offer with the spring promotion during the month of June where you can earn double points on your first qualifying car rental — then earn triple points on the remainder of your car rentals — through Thursday, June 30, 2016; and you might even be able to earn a free 25 bonus Hertz Gold Plus Rewards points simply by registering for that offer. Note that I said might, as that particular offer is supposedly targeted — but you never know, as it does not hurt to try.

It seems that anything can be called a “flash sale” these days. Although I do enjoy an occasional ride in the Chevrolet Corvette owned by a friend of mine — he already purchased a new one to replace the older convertible version he had — luxury and exotic cars do not particularly excite me. They also cost too much; and I would not want to get into an accident with one.

By the way, forget about earning a free day by renting a Chevrolet Corvette as part of this “flash sale” from Hertz as well.

If your primary objective is to save money on renting cars based on getting the best value as your top priority, this promotion is not for you — and I have no intention of participating in this promotion…

…but if you enjoy renting certain vehicles which are not considered your typical rental car and you plan on renting a minimum of one of them from Hertz this year, you can at least earn a free day out of it — and I hope that this article is of some use to you.

If you didn’t have expiriece with the Hertz promotions, you should be aware that their Gold Plus Rewads department is incompetent and they can’t get things done. I’ve participated in a few promotions such as this, and the points just on’t come in. After talking to them and emailing back and forth, nothing is resolved. Long story short, Hertz’s promotions are a waste of time.
