Hilton to Match Both Cash and Points Donations For Texas Which Was Devastated by Weather

When much of Texas plunged into darkness as a result of the recent massive winter storms which swept through much of the United States and southern Canada — greater than four million people in Texas alone were without electricity, heat, or water due to power outages and other issues — the team at Hilton and the Hilton Effect Foundation wanted to help by matching donations to assist the people of Texas in returning to some semblance of normalcy.

Hilton to Match Both Cash and Points Donations For Texas Which Was Devastated by Weather

This initiative became personal with the employees of Hilton, as the state of Texas is the location of the birth of Hilton: on his way to purchasing a bank on Saturday, May 31, 1919, Conrad Hilton decided instead to purchase a local hotel called The Mobley in the city of Cisco

…and greater than 100 years later after the opening of the first hotel property by Hilton, the multinational lodging company currently has a corporate office, a reservation center, and 517 hotel and resort properties across the state.

“The past few weeks, we’ve seen first-hand the disruption and devastation these communities have experienced”, according to an e-mail message which was sent to me by one of my contacts at Hilton. “So, in addition to matching cash donations to Direct Relief, the Hilton Effect Foundation will match donations made by Hilton Honors Members via PointWorthy. Donations will support Team Rubicon, an organization providing on-the-ground aid to those impacted.”

When members of the Hilton Honors frequent guest loyalty program redeem points for a cash donation  to Team Rubicon – Texas Disaster Relief through PointWorthy, the Hilton Effect Foundation will match the donations — up to a maximum limit of 10,000,000 Hilton Honors points at a rate of 350 points per one United States dollar — through Friday, March 12, 2021. Upon linking their Hilton Honors and PointWorthy accounts, members can redeem points towards a donation.

A notification on PointWorthy will be included after the 10,000,000 points in donation amounts have been matched; and donations will no longer be matched at that point.

In a world which seems so sharply divided in recent years, knowing that help is on the way for people who need it — without regard to political issues or other ridiculous impediments which otherwise backpedal our society in general — is at least comforting and reassuring; and I hope that the Hilton Effect Foundation reaches its goal as quickly and as successfully as possible.
