Hyatt Gold Passport Point Devaluation Announced…

…or, at least, the Announcement: Gold Passport Hotel Award Category Upgrades starting on June 4, 2010 is being perceived as a Gold Passport point devaluation by many FlyerTalk members.

While not as bad as the Hilton HHonors point devaluation that occurred earlier this year, there are FlyerTalk members who vow that the Consequence of Hyatt Devaluation: Commitments to Take our Business Elsewhere will certainly happen, although not all FlyerTalk members believe that the devaluation is all that drastic enough to warrant that action.

Indeed, the news is not all bad: among other things, 65 Hyatt Gold Passport properties will move to a lower category requiring fewer points and 89 Hyatt Gold Passport properties will move to a higher category. Gold Passport members who hold existing award reservations for stays subsequent to June 4 will receive a refund for the point difference if the hotel moves to a lower category. Award reservations made by June 4 will be allowed to be modified under the terms of the original award chart by September 2.
