I Would Like to Know What Is My Gift From American Airlines For 2020 — But…

An official press release heralded an unusual announcement from American Airlines yesterday, Tuesday, November 1, 2020 pertaining to an interesting promotion called Our Greatest Gift, with which every member of the American Airlines AAdvantage frequent flier loyalty program would receive a gift — simply for being a member — starting today, Wednesday, December 2, 2020…

…but I have yet to unwrap my gift, as I keep encountering the message which is in the screen shot that is shown above — even though I had logged into my membership account successfully:

Our system is having trouble

Please wait a few moments and try again.

In addition to receiving a gift of some kind, I have a chance to be one of six lucky members who will win 500,000 AAdvantage miles plus lodging; and I will also be offered a personalized promotion to purchase travel in the new year.

The following text has been excerpted from the official press release:

After registering for the promotion, members will virtually unwrap gifts such as award miles, a complimentary Main Cabin Extra seat or even an Admirals Club One-Day Pass. Members will receive an email with a link to their Promotion Center to reveal their gift, or they can log in and navigate to the Promotions tab in their AAdvantage account. AAdvantage members will also receive an exclusive offer to encourage them to take the skies in early 2021 after registering for the promotion. For customers who aren’t yet AAdvantage members, they can still receive a gift and sweepstakes entry if they join the program by Dec. 16.

Piles of AAdvantage Miles For Six Members — and Accommodations, Too

Upon registering for the promotion, AAdvantage members who live in the United States will be entered automatically into a sweepstakes in which six lucky winners will receive 500,000 AAdvantage miles plus one of the following:

  • Five winners will win an all-inclusive four-night stay for them and one guest at Hyatt Ziva or Hyatt Zilara resorts.
  • One winner will win a three-night stay for them and up to three guests to Universal Orlando Resort — including park passes.

Select Terms and Conditions

No purchase or payment is required or necessary to enter, play, win or claim a prize; and a purchase or payment will not increase your odds or chances of winning.

You must be a legal resident of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who is at least 18 years of age or older and the age of majority in your state at the time of entry. You must also be a member of the American Airlines AAdvantage frequent flier loyalty program in order to participate in this promotion.

The total approximate retail value of all of the grand prizes is between $12,800.00 and $15,470.00, with six winners in total who will be determined by the order of the drawing.

Five winners will each have 500,000 miles credited to his or her American Airlines AAdvantage membership account; and an all-inclusive stay of four nights at either Hyatt Ziva or Hyatt Zilara resorts with a guest. The approximate retail value of this prize is $850.00.

One winner will have 500,000 miles credited to his or her American Airlines AAdvantage membership account; and trip with up to three guests to Universal Orlando Resort. The approximate retail value of this prize is $1,300.00.

Other rules, terms, and conditions apply.

Summary

Maybe I need to wait until Christmas — or, perhaps Chanukah — to “unwrap” my gift? No, that will not work, as the terms and conditions of this promotion claim that “Entrants will automatically receive an entry into the sweepstakes by logging into his or her AAdvantage account on aa.com and clicking “Register” on a placement in the Promotions Center to claim his or her free holiday gift between December 2, 2020 and December 16, 2020.”

The aforementioned press release also includes this statement: “Our members truly are our greatest gift,” said Rick Elieson, who is the president of the AAdvantage frequent flier loyalty program. “This holiday season, we’re giving every AAdvantage member a gift — it’s our way of showing thanks and appreciation for being why we fly — this year and every year.”

This experience is like trying to open a physical gift which is difficult to unwrap due to all of the tape and ribbons which tightly protect the sought-after prize — but this is the year 2020, after all. I guess I will just have to be patient. Sigh…

…so what did you receive — and what am I missing from this promotion until I can “open” my gift? Have you had success in “opening” your gift — or are you experiencing similar technical issues?

    Don’t bother.

It’s only a 100 miles. I had no issues logging into the app, looking at Offers and Registering for it. Good luck!

It seems that each person gets a different amount. I am glad I logged into my account because I noticed, when I did, that my miles are expiring in May. For some reason I didn’t think American did that any more. It will be interesting to see if the miles I just received from this promotion will reset the clock.

I received a Main Cabin Extra seat coupon. Can’t complain.

I couldn’t get results for me, but Hubby got 100 miles WOW 😉
