In Memoriam: gfowler-ord-1k

“+1” is what FlyerTalk member gfowler-ord-1k posted in the Starwood | Starwood Preferred Guest forum on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 9:45 in the morning Eastern Daylight Time pertaining to being able to register for a specific promotion from the Starwood Preferred Guest frequent guest loyalty program — and that became the last time he posted on FlyerTalk.

In Memoriam: gfowler-ord-1k

His age not publicly disclosed, gfowler-ord-1k — whose real name is Gene Fowler — passed away sometime back in early March of 2022; and this discussion on FlyerTalk is dedicated to his memory. Neither the cause of death nor any obituary had been publicly disclosed at the time this article was written.

Having first joined FlyerTalk as a member on Saturday, February 2, 2002, gfowler-ord-1k posted content a total of 5,176 times and participated in a variety of forums — but especially and mainly the United Airlines | MileagePlus forum and the Starwood | Starwood Preferred Guest forum. His last activity on FlyerTalk was on March 26, 2019 at 8:12 in the morning Eastern Daylight Time.

Although Gene achieved 1.9 million miles in the United Airlines MileagePlus membership program in which he earned Premier 1K elite status and also earned Platinum elite status in the Starwood Preferred Guest membership program, he referred to himself as “a nothing in several others”. His occupations were an “unemployed bum, man of leisure, computer consultant”.

I first met Gene in person at a restaurant in the Phoenix metropolitan area. The restaurant has apparently since gone out of business.

Final Boarding Call

The loss of a FlyerTalk member is always sad for me. I really dislike having to mourn yet another fellow frequent flier — especially one whom I had met in person.

In the meantime, my thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of gfowler-ord-1k. This discussion has been posted on FlyerTalk in his honor. If you have any thoughts you would like to impart or a photograph of Gene which you would like to highlight here, please let me know in the Comments section below.

In the meantime, may you rest in peace, Gene. You are indeed missed…
