In Memoriam: SteveDCA

“HNL is not bad fare wise if u are not close to Christmas–or right after it before NYE”

What you just read was what FlyerTalk member SteveDCA posted in the Mileage Run Discussion forum on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 9:20 in the evening Eastern Daylight Time in response to a fellow FlyerTalk member searching for a mileage run on United Airlines out of the greater New York metropolitan area — and that became the last time he posted on FlyerTalk.

In Memoriam: SteveDCA

Although SteveDCA — whose real name is Steve — apparently passed away sometime in March of 2015, FlyerTalk member TravelinWilly had announced the sad news on Sunday, February 23, 2020:

I’m sad to report that SteveDCA died some time ago (March 2015).

Back in the mid aughts I became friends with him IRL – we’d met and chatted both here and on another board, and struck up a friendship.

Well, life got the better of me, and I found a significant other and SteveDCA and I lost touch. I Googled him a couple of days ago to see what he was up to, and saw that he was gone. While he wasn’t as prolific a poster as some of us were/are, he did seem to have a PhD in United Airlines, and contributed positively in these parts.

RIP, Steve.

Having first joined FlyerTalk as a member on Monday, January 24, 2000, SteveDCA posted content a total of only 356 times and participated in a variety of forums. His last activity on FlyerTalk was on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 12:27 in the afternoon Eastern Standard Time.

Summary

I did not know SteveDCA personally nor have I ever met him or communicated with him; but the loss of a FlyerTalk member is still sad for me. I really dislike having to mourn yet another fellow frequent flier — no matter when he or she passed away.

Any other information pertaining to SteveDCA — such as an Internet web site pertaining to remembering details about his life — had been unavailable to me at the time this article was written. I intend to edit and amend this article if any new information becomes available so that he may be properly remembered with a more fitting tribute.

In the meantime, my thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of SteveDCA. May he rest in peace…
