KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has announced its new full lie-flat seat for its World Business Class cabin — as well as the renovation of the interior of the cabin itself, including new carpeting, panel decorations, curtains, lighting, blankets, cushions and upholstery.
The fleet of 22 Boeing 747-400 aircraft will be the first to feature the renovated World Business Class cabin — and the number of seats will be reduced from 42 to 35 seats, which will offer storage compartments and increased privacy. The inaugural flight of the first Boeing 747-400 aircraft equipped with the renovated World Business Class cabin is anticipated to occur sometime in July of 2013.
After the World Business Class cabins are renovated inside the entire fleet of 22 Boeing 747-400 aircraft — expected to be completed sometime in April of 2014 — the fleet of 15 Boeing 777-200 aircraft will be next with the renovations, expected to begin that summer, followed by the fleets of Boeing 777-300ER, Airbus A332 and Airbus A333 aircraft respectively.
Did I mention that the carpeting was manufactured partly from the discarded uniforms of female KLM flight attendants as part of its innovative and sustainability initiative?
There will be what FlyerTalk members are calling “solo seats” — seats where the passenger will have no seatmate. Reaction is mixed about the new World Business Class product, however — and I do have to agree with the comments about the color. I know that the particular shade of blue used by KLM is rather unique amongst commercial airlines, but I still consider it “Pepto-Bismol blue” — if Pepto-Bismol were blue instead of pink.
Do you plan on trying out the new World Business Class product to be offered by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines?
