New Off-Peak and Peak Redemption Rates 2019 For Marriott Bonvoy Award Chart

If you have an upcoming redemption stay, the standard rate still applies. If you need to change your reservation after the new redemption rates become effective as of Saturday, September 14, 2019, you will receive the available redemption rate when you rebook your reservation.

The new award chart for the redemption of Marriott Bonvoy points is as follows:

Category Off-Peak Standard Peak Percentage
1 5,000 7,500 10,000 33.33 percent
2 10,000 12,500 15,000 20.00 percent
3 15,000 17,500 20,000 14.29 percent
4 20,000 25,000 30,000 20.00 percent
5 30,000 35,000 40,000 14.29 percent
6 40,000 50,000 60,000 20.00 percent
7 50,000 60,000 70,000 16.67 percent
8 70,000 85,000 100,000 17.65 percent

The percentage column applies for both off-peak and peak redemption of Marriott Bonvoy points when compared to the standard redemption of Marriott Bonvoy points: for example, 10,000 points for an off-peak award night at a Category 2 hotel property is a 20 percent discount when compared to 12,500 points for a standard award night; while 15,000 points for a peak award night at a Category 2 hotel property is a 20 percent premium when compared to 12,500 points for a standard award night.

Put another way, the best value is for off-peak award nights at Category 1 hotel properties, with which you will save 33.33 percent on the number of points redeemed versus the standard award night; while at 14.29 percent on the number of points redeemed, the lowest premium for peak award nights applies to Category 3 and Category 5 hotel properties versus the standard award night.

Meanwhile, the new award chart for the Cash + Points option is as follows, with all cash amounts in United States dollars:

Category Off-Peak Standard Peak
1 $55.00 + 1,500 $55.00 + 3,500 $55.00 + 4,500
2 $65.00 + 4,000 $65.00 + 6,000 $65.00 + 7,000
3 $80.00 + 6,000 $80.00 + 8,500 $80.00 + 9,500
4 $105.00 + 8,000 $105.00 + 12,000 $105.00 + 15,000
5 $140.00 + 13,500 $140.00 + 17,000 $140.00 + 21,000
6 $190.00 + 19,000 $190.00 + 25,000 $190.00 + 30,000
7 $250.00 + 25,000 $250.00 + 30,000 $250.00 + 40,000
8 $440.00 + 27,500 $440.00 + 42,500 $440.00 + 57,500

With both award charts, Marriott Bonvoy point values are based on a standard room and may vary by length of stay and hotel category or tier. Point values might be higher at selected locations. Upgrades may be available for additional points. No Blackout Dates applies — although some brands may cap the number of standard rooms available for redemption on a limited number of days.

Marriott Vacation Club, Marriott Grand Residence Club and Vistana Signature Experiences resort properties do not participate in No Blackout Dates.

Summary

Not much may have been said about the new redemption rates; but one thing is for certain: aspirational hotel and resort properties will certainly be more expensive during peak periods; and those Fairfield Inn hotel properties in East Squeedonk, Idaho or Moron, North Dakota will only cost you 5,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night in January…

…but exactly when peak periods and off-peak periods occur will depend on each individual hotel or resort property; and you will not know for certain unless you invest time and effort into doing the research yourself for your future stay.

Welcome to another entrant in the world of dynamic pricing, as illustrated by past articles written by me and posted here at The Gate — and expect other frequent travel loyalty programs to follow suit in their typical lemming style:
