No Fee to Change Basic Economy Tickets 2021 With Delta Air Lines

If you have already purchased a ticket with a Basic Economy fare — or plan to purchase one — for a flight which is operated by Delta Air Lines during the remainder of the year, you are permitted to change your itinerary without incurring a fee through Friday, December 31, 2021 starting tomorrow, Wednesday, July 28, 2021.

This official waiver applies to Delta Air Lines tickets — regardless of origin or destination — if the date which your ticket was purchased and issued is from Saturday, May 1, 2021 through Friday, December 31, 2021.

The temporary 2021 Basic Economy Changeability Waiver is part of a commitment by Delta Air Lines to ensure that managing your trip is easier for you; and that you have the flexibility you need for your travel plans as the airline ramps up to meet surging demand since a number of restrictions — which were in place because of the current 2019 Novel Coronavirus pandemic — have eased.

If you purchased your Basic Economy ticket on or before Friday, April 30, 2021 — as per the 2019 Novel Coronavirus travel waivers of Delta Air Lines — you have up to 24 hours after purchasing and booking your ticket to cancel it for any reason and receive a full refund with no change or cancellation fees. Basic Economy tickets purchased outside of existing waivers — such as the temporary 2021 Basic Economy Changeability Waiver — cannot be changed or refunded.

If you need assistance with how to cancel or change your flight, visit the how-to guide of Delta Air Lines.

Eligible customers will be able to manage their trips at the official Internet web site of Delta Air Lines and via the Fly Delta mobile software application program later this week.

Changing Your Flight:

  • To change your flight, visit My Trips, select the flight you wish to change and then click on “Modify Flight”
  • Choose “Start Flight Change” and select which flight you would like to change to search for a new flight

Note that sometimes your new flight may cost more than your original flight, if this happens you would pay a difference in price* even though there is no change fee.

Canceling Your Trip

You may cancel your trip and receive an eCredit for the value of your unused ticket.

  • Your eCredit must be rebooked on or before December 31, 2022
  • To cancel your flight, visit My Trips on delta.com and click on “Modify Flight” then choose “Start Flight Cancellation”

Note that sometimes your new flight may cost more than your eCredit, if this happens, you would pay the difference in price even though there is no change fee. If there is a difference in price, a difference in fare will apply. Notwithstanding any rules or ticketing policies to the contrary, if the newly selected flight is for the same travel dates, for the same origin and destination, and results in a lower ticket price, then the reissued ticket will be deemed issued at the same ticket price as the original ticket (i.e., any fare difference will not be issued in the form of a credit). Final travel must be completed by end of ticket validity. If travel is not able to be rescheduled within these guidelines, customers may cancel their reservation and apply any unused value of the ticket toward the purchase of a new ticket. For Basic Economy tickets purchased after April 30, 2021 with travel before December 31, 2021, if a voluntary change is made the Basic Economy ticket must be rebooked by December 31, 2021. Travel must be completed by December 31, 2022. Applicable change fee and fare difference will apply for new travel dates.

Summary

Now you do not have to be concerned about being restricted or having to pay extra when you save money on tickets for flights operated by Delta Air Lines for the remainder of 2021 if you want to purchase your ticket — or have already purchased your tickets on or after Saturday, May 1, 2021 — with a Basic Economy airfare.
