On My Way to Kenya: Delta Sky Club Lounge in Atlanta

decided on the chicken noodle soup over the black bean soup here at the Delta Sky Club on Concourse E at the international airport in Atlanta to tide me over until my flight to Amsterdam later this afternoon on my way to Nairobi. That, and some romaine lettuce, a mixture of olives, carrots, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, and a couple of chocolate chip cookies. The soup was nice and hot; but it could have used more noodles…

…and if you are wondering what I am doing in an airport lounge, do not be concerned: as with my unintentional trip around the world, every flight on this trip will be in a seat in the economy class cabin for me. I do not have a reservation at the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme; in fact, far from it, as I will be camping while on a safari for a few days.

There was plenty of leg room in my seat located in the Economy Comfort section of the McDonnell Douglas MD-88 aircraft operated by Delta Air Lines. Photograph ©2015 by Brian Cohen.

The Sky Club was quite crowded when I arrived; but a significant number of people left, so it is not as chaotic. It is nice to have access to it — even if the flight from Washington, D.C. was uneventful and on time; and I was seated in the Economy Comfort section of the aircraft. In fact, the aircraft landed early. So much for my concern for inclement weather — and I am happy about that.

I have always liked this Sky Club over the others at the airport in Atlanta primarily for the views of the tarmac — such as the one at the top of this article. I actually have a better photograph with a Boeing 747-400 outside of the window. I do not have it with me; but perhaps I will post it in a future article some day.

Anyway, I am not certain as to when and where I will have access to the Internet over the next several days; but so far, this trip is going rather well. Please bear with me — and thank you…

  1. I just returned from a rtw trip including a stay in Nairobi and a short safari in the Masai Mara. You will love your safari no matter where it is in Kenya. Nairobi traffic is some of the worst I’ve seen. If you get a hotel in Nairobi, stay near the airport. Avoid the Hilton. It is a pit.

    1. I wish I would have known that sooner, john. I have a reservation at the Hilton after the safari concludes…

      …thank you, though!

  2. safari njema!
That’s a lot of flying in coach! But worth it. Kenya is a favorite of mine. There’s free wifi at Schiphol, for at least 30 mins or so in the concourse. Skyteam lounges are nice, too.
Depending on where you are going, those safari tents are pretty darn nice. Hot showers and even wifi in the Morani tents at Sweetwaters last time I was there. Have a great time. Looking forward to your reviews!

    1. I am using the free Wi-Fi at Schiphol Airport now while waiting for my flight to Nairobi to depart, Deb; and I had just left one of the KLM Crown Lounges before arriving at the gate.

Thank you for the information — I appreciate it.

  3. As you are probably aware, now, wifi is recently became unlimited at Schiphol.
LOL at “every flight on this trip will be in a seat in the economy class cabin for me” – brought a smile to my face. But, quite glad you are at least able to use the lounges. I very much enjoy your economy class reports. There is a pretty decent “gourmet food” store near F-pier at Schiphol if you want to bring aboard something “nice.”
