OnePass Account Number Will Survive Merger; Mileage Plus Account Number Will Not

As a former top-tier Continental OnePass frequent flier loyalty program elite member, I am actually pleased about the official news that OnePass account numbers will survive the merger between Continental Airlines and United Airlines, to be effective as of towards the end of the first quarter of 2012. I have had my OnePass account number memorized for years, while I have never been able to memorize my United Airlines Mileage Plus account number — both of which I have had for approximately the same amount of time.

  • If you currently have only a OnePass account, this account number will become your permanent Mileage Plus account number after the system conversion. You do not need to do anything.
  • If you currently have only a Mileage Plus account, you automatically will receive a new eight-character alphanumeric account number in late first quarter 2012. You do not need to do anything now.
  • If you have an account in both programs, you should link your accounts today, if you’ve not already done so. This will ensure that — after the system conversion — your OnePass account number will become your permanent MileagePlus number.

I have already linked both my OnePass and Mileage Plus accounts. The advantage to linking both accounts is if one account has a higher status level, then your status will be matched in the other account. Additionally, elite qualifying activity in both accounts will be combined. If the combined total places you at a higher elite level, your status will be upgraded in both accounts.
