Reader Question: Get AAdvantage Miles AND Name on Airplane for One $25 Donation?
In this article which I wrote earlier this month pertaining to honoring a loved one by adding his or her name to an airplane during the month of July of 2019 when you donate a minimum of $25.00 to Stand Up To Cancer, I also wrote that you will earn 10 AAdvantage miles for every dollar you donate to Stand Up To Cancer through the Miles To Stand Up program of American Airlines with a minimum donation of $25.00.
Reader Question: Get AAdvantage Miles AND Name on Airplane for One $25 Donation?
That prompted r m h — who is a reader of The Gate — to ask in the Comments section of the aforementioned article, “can you donate $25 and get the miles AND name added to the aircraft…..or is it an either/or sort of thing?”
I did not readily know the answer; so I contacted American Airlines more than once through multiple channels — and I never received a definitive answer to that question. For example, here is the response which I received via Twitter:
We’re not sure about the specific information you’re requesting but you can find more information regarding the charity online here, https://www.aa.com/i18n/customer-service/about-us/let-good-take-flight/our-wellbeing.jsp
Summary
That answer — as well as others — from American Airlines was obviously of no help to me or to r m h; so I am turning to you. Do you know the definitive answer to the question asked by r m h, which is: when you donate a minimum of $25.00, can you get the 10 AAdvantage miles for every dollar donated and honor a loved one by adding his or her name to the aircraft — or does one have to spend $25.00 for each?
I even checked this discussion on FlyerTalk; but the answer was not obviously apparent.
I need an answer by Wednesday, July 31, 2019, when the offer of adding the name of a loved one to an airplane ends.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

thanks brian!
fyi, i have also inquired via email with AA. if i hear anything, i will post it here.
just got this reply from AA…sounds like it’s an either/or and not a double dipper! copied and pasted :
First, let me apologize for the delay in answering your message to us.
It is never our intention to keep you waiting for so long.
If you make a donation and wish to include a loved one’s name on a
plane, you do not have the option to add your AAdvantage number to earn
miles. I am sorry to disappoint you.
…so American Airlines will not give you 250 AAdvantage miles — probably worth no more than a whopping five dollars — with the “July special” of adding the name of a loved one to an airplane for $25.00, r m h?
Wow. How disappointing…
very disappointing. c’est la vie…unfortunately!
