So…Did I Ever Get 500 Bonus SkyMiles Simply By Registering For This Los Angeles International Airport Promotion?

Terminal 3 at Los Angeles International Airport is currently under construction and is scheduled to open sometime during Spring of 2022, which is only as few as six months away — and recognizing “that you may experience congestion throughout the terminal before taking off to your destination”, Delta Air Lines is offering to thank you in the form of 500 bonus SkyMiles…

Eligible flights must be both marketed and operated by Delta Air Lines; and eligible customers will be able to get the bonus SkyMiles up to a maximum of two times every seven days, which translates to earning 1,000 bonus SkyMiles every week.

Passengers who originate, end their trip, or connect through Los Angeles International Airport by flying on a flight which is marketed and operated by Delta Air Lines will be eligible for this offer.

Non-SkyMiles Members must enroll in the SkyMiles program and scan the QR code in order to receive the bonus miles. This offer is cap to two times sign-up per week or a total of 1000 miles per 7 days per passenger. This offer is not applicable for any person whose prior SkyMiles account has been closed for any reason.

Offers are void where prohibited by law. SkyMiles will be deposited into the SkyMiles membership account after travel is completed. Allow up to six weeks after travel is completed for miles to appear. Bonus miles will not count toward Medallion Qualification Miles or Million Miles elite lifetime status. This offer is subject to change or withdrawal at any time without prior notice.

To enquire about this offer, please refer to code 218504 when contacting any customer service representative of Delta Air Lines.

Other restrictions, terms, and conditions — including those of the Delta Air Lines SkyMiles frequent flier loyalty program — apply.

My Experience With Registering For This Promotion

Even though I have no plans at the time this article was written to go to or from Los Angeles International Airport this year, I decided to register for this promotion — just in case I do travel to or from there.

The following screen appeared after entering my SkyMiles number, which was accepted for this promotion:

Your 500 bonus miles are on their way and will be added to your SkyMiles account in the next 48 hours.

Thank you again for your patience as we continue to work tirelessly to bring you a world-class travel experience at LAX.

As always, we look forward to seeing you on onboard again soon.

My 500 bonus miles are on their way and will be added to my SkyMiles membership account in the next 48 hours?

Did I just earn 500 bonus SkyMiles simply for registering for this promotion?!?

Final Boarding Call

No fewer than eight days have passed since I first wrote this article pertaining to this promotion — so I waited eight days instead of 48 hours since I registered for this promotion to check my SkyMiles membership account and see if 500 bonus SkyMiles were added…

…and nothing — not a single SkyMile — was added to my membership account.

In other words, my miles are not on the way after all.

I was not disappointed, as that is exactly what I expected. The worst that happened is that I took a few seconds to sign up for this promotion with nothing in return.

Despite what is included in the terms and conditions of this promotion — which is usually smaller type than the actual marketing message — whoever designed this promotion and wrote the verbiage needs to be significantly more careful about what is promised to the participant. In my opinion, this was an unacceptably careless move by Delta Air Lines — and although I expected nothing more from this promotion, I do expect more from the marketing department and SkyMiles department from Delta Air Lines in general…
