Starwood Discounts: Up to 50% Off Room Rates in Europe, Africa and Middle East; Up to 25% Off Purchase of Starpoints
I want to alert you to two separate discount offers involving the Starwood Preferred Guest frequent guest loyalty program: one which you can save up to 50 percent off of the best available room rates at participating hotel properties in Europe and the Middle East where some FlyerTalk members are reporting on some good deals; while the other promotion offers you a discount of up to 25 percent off of the purchase of Starpoints.
Save Up to 50 Percent at Participating Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Properties in Europe, Africa and the Middle East
Effective immediately through Sunday, March 17, 2013 in honor of the Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin show — the largest tourism trade fair in the world — you can reserve a room for a discount of up to 50 percent at 56 participating hotel properties in the following countries for stays between now and June 30, 2013:
- Czech Republic
- United Arab Emirates
- United Kingdom
Ensure that you carefully review the terms of each hotel property, as FlyerTalk members are reporting that some hotel properties on the list are not offering the special rate; while other hotel properties are not as flexible with their cancellation policies. Be flexible with your travel plans, as there are quite a few restrictions, terms and conditions on this rate.
Save Up to 25 Percent on the Purchase of Starpoints
Effective immediately through Tuesday, April 30, 2013, you can receive a discount of up to 25 percent off of the regular price when you purchase Starpoints either for yourself or as a gift to someone special as shown in the following chart:
|• Purchase 500–6,500 Starpoints:||Save 15 Percent|
|• Purchase 7,000–12,500 Starpoints:||Save 20 Percent|
|• Purchase 13,000–20,000 Starpoints:||Save 25 Percent|
FlyerTalk members are not as excited about this promotion. Purchasing 20,000 Starpoints will cost you $525.00, or 2.625 cents per Starpoint — and, as FlyerTalk member tys90 points out, purchasing Starpoints through a Cash & Points award redemption can cost as low as two cents per Starpoint.
Also — unless you are purchasing frequent flier loyalty program miles through a special discount promotion by an airline — it may still be more expensive to purchase Starpoints at up to a 25 percent discount and convert them to frequent flier loyalty program miles.
Because the exchange is through points.com, you will not earn a 400 percent bonus on every dollar you spend with your Starwood Preferred Guest by American Express card.
Unless you purchase your Starpoints with the discount to use on a very expensive room rate at a Starwood Preferred Guest hotel property, this promotion may not be worth your time and effort. If you already plan on staying at a specific Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide property in the foreseeable future, do check to see if the room rate is high enough to render this promotion valuable enough for you to take advantage of it.
Terms and conditions may apply.
