This bit of advice may seem to be elementary and obvious; but I have seen people announce on different social media platforms exactly when they are departing on trips — as well as when they are returning.

The main reason for this advice is that you have to assume that your personal information is available for anyone who wants to find it — especially after the recent spate of massive security breaches at a number of companies which exposed millions of people to having their sensitive personal information accidentally accessible…

…and if someone who knows your address also knows that you are not home, chances are that your belongings, your personal information — and possibly even your identity — has a better chance of being compromised.
