Gratulacje ślubne!

Although the season was officially spring and the month was April, the air in the Old Town section of Warsaw was rather crisp; and the wind contributed to the blustery conditions as crowds of people were going about their business, bundled up in their overcoats, scarves, gloves, and coverings for their heads to keep some semblance of warmth on that dreary, cloudy morning…

…and out of nowhere enters a couple wearing full wedding outfits: the woman dressed in a bridal gown carrying a small bouquet of fresh flowers; and the man sporting a tuxedo.

They immediately became the center of attention in the square as people turned their heads to see them — some who could not help but smile as though the couple brought a ray of warm sunshine; while others still processing what is going on in their minds.

No, the couple was not getting married at that moment. They were being led by a photographer who was directing them to locations around the square and posing them for their official wedding pictures.

The photographer was seeking a place which would be what she thought was a good background while simultaneously directing the bride and groom to a quiet area away from the crowds of people.

When the photographer was satisfied with what she saw and how she posed them for this particular series of pictures, she started shooting them with her camera.

The wind and cold air resulted in rather uncomfortable conditions for the couple, who braved the weather to capture memories to last the rest of their lives — and he does whatever he can to help her.

Final Boarding Call

I worked in the wedding industry as a photographer years ago, which is what I attribute to honing my photographic eye. Although the photographer is basically in charge at the time of shooting portrait photographs, many moments exist during the wedding ceremony and reception with which a photographer must be ready and cannot miss a shot, for once that fleeting moment passes, it is gone forever — such as the exchange of rings and the first kiss as a married couple.

I hope the bride and groom who were featured in this article are enjoying a lifetime of bliss together — which is a tough thing to do these days.
