Sunday Morning Photograph May 29 2022: Lipica Stud Farm in Slovenia.
The sun was setting that late October afternoon; and I liked the lighting in the historic stable itself — so I took a couple of photographs. Archduke Charles II — who is the third son of Habsburg Emperor Ferdinand I — signed the contract on the acquisition of the Lipica estate on Thursday, May 19, 1580, which was the beginning of the Lipica Stud Farm; and Franc Jurko became its first manager.
Most of the world famous Lipizzan horses were outside, however — so outside we went.
Lipica is the home of the Lipizzan horses and the biggest Lipizzan stud farm in the world, with greater than 300 white Lipizzan horses across greater than 300 hectares of green space.
The Lipizzan horses were friendly enough that they will come right up to you and let you pet them, if you so choose.
A couple of the horses head off into the sunset — without any cowboys — on the grounds of the Lipica Stud Farm, which has existed for greater than 442 years.
