This New Hotel Was Formerly a Car Factory. It Will Open Next Month.

I received a communication via e-mail message from a contact representing Hilton pertaining to new DoubleTree by Hilton hotel properties which will be opening in the near future: “2017 has been a landmark year of growth for DoubleTree by Hilton with the brand opening 30+ hotels in some of the world’s most exciting destinations including MadridDubaiXiamen and Hollywood in Florida.”

This New Hotel Was Formerly a Car Factory. It Will Open Next Month.

One particular hotel property which caught my eye, however, is the DoubleTree by Hilton Turin Lingotto, which is described as a “truly one-of-a-kind property, this hotel will open in the historic former FIAT factory, maintaining its original architecture and stand out amenities including its famous rooftop test track” that was featured in the film The Italian Job.

Guests also have free entrance to the adjacent Pinacoteca Agnelli art collection — which is another rather unique feature of this hotel property.

The DoubleTree by Hilton Turin Lingotto is presently accepting reservations for arrival on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 and beyond. I would be interested in staying as a guest at that hotel property.

Other DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Property Openings

Here is a sneak peek at the other hotel properties which have recently opened — or will be opening — under the DoubleTree by Hilton brand:

  • DoubleTree by Hilton Neenah — Overlooking the serene Fox River in Neenah, this newly renovated hotel welcomes guests with its state-of-the-art amenities and upscale offerings. Craft beer and cocktail connoisseurs will enjoy the Level One Restaurant and Lounge on the hotel property, which offers up some of the finest craft beer and spirits in the state of Wisconsin — including small-batch bourbons and scotches.
  • DoubleTree by Hilton Lafayette East — Located minutes away from the campus of Purdue University, this hotel property — which recently opened for business — offers modern and welcoming accommodations to those looking to experience best of Lafayette in Indiana. Amenities — which include a large outdoor firepit and indoor pool and whirlpool — are designed specifically for you to relax in the hotel.
  • DoubleTree by Hilton Hull — Opening its doors in the heart of Hull — also known as the 2017 City of Culture of the United Kingdom — this hotel property offers guests easy access to some of the top dining, shopping and entertainment options in the city, which is apparently a Hull of a place to visit. The hotel is home to the Lexington rooftop bar, which provides guests with unbeatable panoramic views of the city.
  • DoubleTree by Hilton Vail — As the first hotel in the Hilton portfolio in one of the most popular ski destinations in the world, this resort property is poised to set the standard for hospitality with its modern interiors and thoughtful amenities. This hotel property is scheduled to open sometime during the winter of 2017.
  • DoubleTree by Hilton Chengdu Longquanyi — Opening in one of the most lively and vibrant cities in China, this hotel property will be the ultimate destination for meetings and special events with its six multi-function event spaces — including an expansive, pillar-free ballroom which can host up to 700 guests. This hotel property is presently accepting reservations for arrival on Monday, January 15, 2018 and beyond.

Summary

The uniqueness of the DoubleTree by Hilton Turin Lingotto reminded me that while I was traveling on business years ago, I stayed at a Hilton hotel property in Akron which was once a grain silo complex that held greater than 1.5 million bushels of grain. It was converted to a hotel property.

When I booked a reservation at that hotel property, I had no idea that it was a converted grain silo complex. Furthermore, I arrived at night; so I did not immediately notice how unusual was the building — especially as the entrance appeared to be normal to me.

When I arrived at my room, I noticed that the walls were round and constructed of solid concrete. Only at that time did I realize the significance of the unusual architecture of that building. My experience was certainly unique. I will never forget it.

Hilton eventually divested of that property, which became the Quaker Square Hotel and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Unfortunately, the hotel closed on Sunday, June 30, 2013 and is now a residence hall for students of the University of Akron; so the only way you can stay there now is if you are a student of the University of Akron — or, at least, a guest of one, I suppose.

I recently stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Lawrence in Kansas, of which I intend to post an article in the future reviewing my experience.

One final note is to not forget about the DoubleTree by Hilton 12 Days of Cookies Contest 2017, which gives you an opportunity to stop in any DoubleTree hotel property located within the United States and get yourself a free warm cookie with no obligation whatsoever — whether or not you are a guest of the hotel property — through Sunday, December 24, 2017; as well as be one of two lucky people to win a stay of two free nights.
