To Those Who Lost Their Lives During the Current Pandemic…

During his inauguration address as the new president of the United States on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 20, 2021, Joseph R. Biden, Junior said the following statement:

To Those Who Lost Their Lives During the Current Pandemic…

And, in my first act as President, I would like to ask you to join me in a moment of silent prayer to remember all those we lost this past year to the pandemic.

To those 400,000 fellow Americans — mothers and fathers, husbands and wives, sons and daughters, friends, neighbors, and co-workers.

We will honor them by becoming the people and nation we know we can and should be.

Let us say a silent prayer for those who lost their lives, for those they left behind, and for our country.

That is a nice thought and sentiment, yes — but perhaps that silent prayer should be amended to include the following estimates of people in the United States who also died during the current 2019 Novel Coronavirus pandemic:

Summary

I was going to include statistics of the millions of other people who died in the United States during the current 2019 Novel Coronavirus pandemic from heart disease, traffic fatalities, chronic lower respiratory diseases, strokes or cerebrovascular diseases, Alzheimer’s disease, complications from diabetes, influenza, pneumonia, nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, nephrosis, suicide, acquired immune deficiency syndrome, homicide, and a plethora of other causes of death in this article…

…but even though at least several organizations — including but not limited to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the United States — vehemently and proactively document the absolute latest data on the current 2019 Novel Coronavirus pandemic on a daily basis, data for sources of other deaths during the year 2020 is scarce at best for now. Apparently, those statistics are not nearly as urgent.

Thankfully, at least no one in the United States died from a commercial airplane crash during the current 2019 Novel Coronavirus pandemic.

The only reason why only deaths in the United States were included in this article was because Joseph Biden offered the silent prayer only for those people in the United States who died from the current 2019 Novel Coronavirus pandemic and not for people elsewhere in the world…

…but approximately 150,000 people die around the world each day. How is one cause of death any more important than another cause of death?

Amen.

    1. That’s probably uncommon and may not always be in the statistics. For example, someone with Covid dies in a car crash.

      1. You are right, I did make the assumption that there is no differentiation. There is at least one state where everyone that had COVID is included. I don’t know how many.

  1. Yes. This. Exactly.
I send my prayers to *everyone* who died last year. Every passing, regardless of cause, brings pain and sorrow to their loved ones.
    Wishing peace to all.

    1. Really? Biden had a moment of prayer for one group of people who sadly died yet failed to make any comment at all for the loss of all others. Not nice.

Think – If you and a co-worker spent equal time working on a big project… and your boss publically praised their work but completely ignored your contribution, wouldn’t you feel a bit put out? Now think how the loved ones of the millions who died of something other than Covid must feel?

ALL people matter… pray for all lost or none at all.

  2. Only one phrase comes to mind reading this.

    “Triggered snowflake”.

You pen dozens of rants about the latest “woke” move by airlines, after all why is everyone so damn oversensitive? Then you proceed to write this absolute slosh because you’re mad your previous tantrums didn’t go over so well. This post is the literal embodiment of “PC culture” you claim to hate.

Seriously who really gives a rats behind whether Biden lists all causes of deaths or just COVID?

    The hypocrisy is truly delicious.

  3. Politicians are very crafty.

US and European ones realize they got the public in the perfect spot.
    Terrified & Pliable.

Smart of him to pander to those who are hiding under their desks.
Clever of him to reinforce fear is important now.

Make sure those politicians have as much authority and power as they wish for.
Can you imagine if we didn’t give them all our freedoms??

  4. “Other people are dying, too” – yes, but the dedication was to the victims of a global tragedy that has befallen all of us, collectively, as a nation.
We honor people who’ve passed in various ways. If you’ve attended mass perhaps you’ve heard of prayers dedicated to specific individuals or certain causes. Biden’s prayer sought to do that, to allay the souls of those affected by COVID. Your rant is the equivalent of barging into a memorial service, and demanding that names of others be included. And your intentions are not good. See “all lives matter”.

    1. If I am barging into a memorial service, Gio, then it is likely a ceremony which was not meant for the public in general — unlike the speech from Biden.

I am not against honoring people who passed away in various ways — but do you believe that Biden was successful in what you say he did?

    2. But this was not a private memorial service nor a mass dedicated to one or a few congregants. It was part of a Presidential inauguration speech aimed at UNIFYING the American people… but instead called out a small group of deaths as being worthy of note while blatantly ignoring the deaths of others. We collectively, as a nation, battle all ailments of our citizens. The neverending obsession with this particular one is nothing but pandering. I was so hoping for more from this President.

  5. You’ve been on the wrong side of this from the beginning. Recall asking if we are wimps for not traveling? As we reach 500k dead, maybe it’s time to reassess your position. This was preventable. Your statistics are inapplicable.

    1. The articles from last spring were completely on point and continue to be applicable. People die. It is what we do. There is no stopping that. This is a virus with a minuscule death rate. Locking us down for a year has done nothing to stop that.

The insane mandates are not working. All they have accomplished is the deterioration of the mental health of millions, the destruction of our economy, and the demise of the immune systems of those who chose to stay locked at home instead of taking basic safety measures and going out to live their lives. There will always be something we can catch, some way we can die. We cannot quit and stay home just hoping to prevent it!

      1. You forgot to mention the sharp division of the people in general, NB_ga.

I still firmly believe that the current 2019 Novel Coronavirus pandemic played a significant role in fueling the chaos which the United States has experienced during the past year.

    1. And you may want to volunteer for the Novavax Phase 3 trial like I have if you’re not likely to get the a vaccine for months otherwise.

    2. We can do something about many deaths.
If we took a tiny portion of the money we have poured into Covid and focused it on mental health… think of the loss of life we could prevent.
Furthermore, if we took a tiny portion of the money we have poured into Covid and focused it on healthy diets, exercise options, education, toxin removal, pregnancy prevention, domestic abuse, driver safety, the list goes on and on… think of the loss of life we could prevent.
