Travel Alert April 2019: Industrial Action in Argentina

A call for labor strikes by members of the transportation unions in Argentina for Tuesday, April 30, 2019 has been issued; and they are likely to affect air travel for the day — as well as the operations of buses, trains and boats.

The strikes are expected to extend to Wednesday, May 1, 2019.

Travel Alert April 2019: Industrial Action in Argentina

If you are traveling to Argentina over the next couple of days, expect delays and cancellations of flights. Keep up to date on the latest information pertaining to this industrial action which may adversely affect your travel plans.

If you have a flight scheduled, your flight may be delayed or canceled — and you may be eligible for a waiver of a fee to change your itinerary.

Here are five airlines which have issued travel alerts as a result of the pending industrial action in Argentina:

  • American Airlines has issued a travel alert for Buenos Aires for Monday, April 29, 2019 through Wednesday, May 1, 2019; and Tuesday, May 7, 2019 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
  • Delta Air Lines has issued a travel alert for Buenos Aires for Monday, April 29, 2019 through Tuesday, April 30, 2019; and Tuesday, May 7, 2019 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
  • United Airlines has issued a travel alert for Buenos Aires for Monday, April 29, 2019 through Tuesday, April 30, 2019; and Tuesday, May 7, 2019 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
  • Air Canada has issued a travel alert for Buenos Aires for Monday, April 29, 2019 through Tuesday, April 30, 2019; and Tuesday, May 14, 2019 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
  • British Airways has issued a travel alert for Buenos Aires for Monday, April 29, 2019 through Wednesday, May 1, 2019 — flight 245 from London-Heathrow Airport to Buenos Aires on April 29 and flight 244 from Buenos Aires to London-Heathrow Airport on April 30 will be cancelled — and Tuesday, May 7, 2019 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.

Summary

Expect other airlines which serve Argentina to issue travel alerts — and travel waivers — for Monday, April 29, 2019 through either Tuesday, April 30, 2019 or Wednesday, May 1, 2019 as a result of the strikes.

Although your flight may not be affected, if you have travel plans to, from or within Argentina on that day, you may want to consider changing them.
