Travel Alert January 2019: Inclement Weather to Affect Dallas and Fort Worth Areas

If Dallas, Fort Worth and surrounding areas are in your travel plans over the next couple of days, you may want to consider delaying your travel — or, at least, keep yourself updated as to the latest information pertaining to the weather — due to the effects resulting from inclement weather.

Travel Alert January 2019: Inclement Weather to Affect Dallas and Fort Worth Areas

Because high temperatures will be cooler by as much as 20 degrees in the greater Dallas and Fort Worth metropolitan area — which is also known as the Metroplex – over the next couple of days, the rain which is forecast to fall may become a wintry mix in some areas. Ice is also not out of the question.

As a result, travel conditions will deteriorate to the point of potentially becoming too dangerous.

The good news is that by the time the precipitation event concludes, temperatures are expected to rebound back to normal, with sunny skies.

Flight Waivers, Delays and Cancellations

If Dallas, Fort Worth and surrounding areas over the next couple of days, expect delays and cancellations of flights. Keep up to date on the latest information pertaining to this weather system which may adversely affect your travel plans. Better yet, postponing or canceling your trip might be a better option — no matter which mode of travel you plan on taking.

If you have a flight scheduled, your flight may be delayed or canceled — and you may be eligible for a waiver of a fee to change your itinerary. If you are driving in any of the affected areas, watch out for deteriorating weather conditions and traffic problems.

Here are two airlines which have issued travel alerts as a result of this weather system:

  • American Airlines has issued a travel alert for Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport for Wednesday, January 2, 2019 through Thursday, January 3, 2019; and Sunday, January 6, 2019 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
  • Southwest Airlines has issued a travel alert for Dallas Love Field for Wednesday, January 2, 2019 through Thursday, January 3, 2019; and Thursday, January 17, 2019 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.

Summary

Additional airlines may issue travel waivers as a result of this winter weather system as it travels eastward.

Be sure to contact your airline or transportation provider for the latest information pertaining to your travels — if they are adversely affected — and please: travel safely.
