Travel Alert January 2019: Rain and Possible Ice For Northeastern United States

A flash flood watch was issued for portions of northern Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island from Thursday morning through Thursday afternoon, January 23, 2019 by the National Weather Service of the United States as a result of the forecast for up to two inches of rain, which may result in flash flooding — as well as urban and poor drainage flooding.

The greatest risk for flooding — as well as dense fog — is expected to occur along coastal areas from extreme northeastern North Carolina through to extreme southwestern New Brunswick.

A narrow swath of the United States — roughly from extreme northeastern Georgia through extreme southwestern Vermont — is forecast to be impacted with ice caused by freezing rain and drizzle. Motorists may experience what is known as black ice on the roads in some areas of this swath.
