Travel Alert July 2019: Inclement Weather to Again Affect New York Metropolitan Area
If the greater metropolitan area of New York is in your immediate travel plans, you may want to consider delaying your travel — or, at least, keep yourself updated as to the latest information pertaining to the weather — due to the effects of significant precipitation resulting from a storm system.
Travel Alert July 2019: Inclement Weather to Again Affect New York Metropolitan Area
A cold front will usher in slow-moving thunderstorms from southern Alabama to northern Maine — but localized flooding as a result of significant precipitation is expected to affect areas of the greater metropolitan area of New York, which includes the five boroughs of New York City; Long Island; northern and central New Jersey; the southernmost counties of New York State which include Westchester and Rockland counties; and southwestern Connecticut.
The greater metropolitan area of New York has already been affected by significant precipitation from severe storms at least twice this month, which resulted in airlines issuing travel waivers.
Flight Waivers, Delays and Cancellations
If you are traveling to or from the greater metropolitan area of New York over the next day or so, expect delays and cancellations of flights. Keep up to date on the latest information pertaining to this weather system which may adversely affect your travel plans. Postponing or canceling your trip might be a better option — no matter which mode of travel you plan on taking.
If you have a flight scheduled, your flight may be delayed or canceled — and you may be eligible for a waiver of a fee to change your itinerary. If you are driving in any of the affected areas, watch out for deteriorating weather conditions and traffic problems.

- American Airlines has issued travel alerts for six airports in two states for Wednesday, July 31, 2019; and Saturday, August 3, 2019 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
- Delta Air Lines has issued travel alerts for five airports in two states for Wednesday, July 31, 2019; and Saturday, August 3, 2019 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
- United Airlines has issued travel alerts for four airports in two states for Wednesday, July 31, 2019; and Saturday, August 3, 2019 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
- JetBlue Airways has issued travel alerts for five airports in two states for Wednesday, July 31, 2019; and Saturday, August 3, 2019 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
- Air Canada has issued travel alerts for eight airports in seven states for Wednesday, July 31, 2019.
- KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has issued travel alerts for five airports in two states for Wednesday, July 31, 2019; and Saturday, August 3, 2019 is the last day on which tickets must be reissued and rebooked travel must begin.
