Travel Alert July 2022: Severe Weather to Affect Eastern United States

Rain reigns — but will be reined in before the holiday weekend concludes.

If the eastern United States is in your travel plans over the next couple of days or so, you may want to consider delaying your travel — or, at least, keep yourself updated as to the latest information pertaining to the weather — due to the latest weather system which has been bringing strong thunderstorms to the affected areas.

Travel Alert July 2022: Severe Weather to Affect Eastern United States

A strong cold front is pushing up against hot and humid air — and the contrast between the two air masses of both temperature and humidity will create severe weather from northern central Virginia all the way to extreme southern New Hampshire, which includes cities such as Scranton, Albany, Worcester, Dover, Harrisburg, Atlantic City, Cape Cod, and Wilkes-Barre…

..but the chances for severe weather — including damaging wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour, hail, torrential rain, and flooding — increase from northeastern Virginia all the way to the southern half of Massachusetts, which includes cities such as New York, Richmond, Philadelphia, Providence, Baltimore, Wilmington, Boston, Newark, New Haven, Trenton, Hartford, and the District of Columbia.

Thunderstorms are not limited to the aforementioned areas, as locations as far south as South Florida and as far north as southern Québec are also forecast to be affected enough in which travel is expected be disrupted with either delays or cancellations of flights.

Expect highways and roadways to be temporarily difficult to navigate in some of the affected areas.

Flight Waivers, Delays and Cancellations

If you are traveling to, from, or within the northeastern United States over the next couple of days or so, expect delays and cancellations of flights.
